Keep in mind the wind rating on this is not that high if you live in hurricane prone areas. You will be better off with a beefier build like a Pergolux or Bon Pergola although the price also increases accordingly.

I'm on my 3rd year and looks brand new to me. Live in Marin county ca. decent amount of sun and rain in the winter. Sits under a pine tree and have to clean it out every once in a while cause of the needles. Mine was from Costco.

Actually, no. Steel cannot be physically in contact with aluminum or you'll get some pretty serious corrosion. The steel is used because it is cheaper and stronger (and thus can use to make thinner panels, ie cheaper). Galvanizing is just a thin coating of zinc so that the steel is more corrosion resistant. If you scratch that coating off (the zinc coating is relatively soft), the underlying steel will rust. If they used a stainless steel, it would be orders of magnitude more expensive. If they made it out of aluminum, they would need thicker and more rigidity braces within the louvers to maintain the same span (cost).

The crank turns a gearbox that moves a bracing arm horizontally. That arm twists the louvers into position. Those connectors that hold the louvers is a formed piece of plastic. Any of those items (arm, gearbox, connectors) would not likely take too much load. Additionally, this thing is a hand-crank... not sure you want to be going out every hour or so to adjust and eyeball an angle for solar production.

Lift up the paver and dig a decent-sized hole like you're putting up a fence. Lay the concrete into the hole and put the paver back on top. Anchor into the concrete.

Why it is so expensive in the US? In Europe I would pay 300-500 Euro for near identical item.. All home/yard related items are basically 3-5x overpriced (though, not that bad in comparison to plumber or electrician service

I asked on my local Costco FB group and many people have had these for years in Seattle and they have held up. It just went off sale so now it's back to $2000 for the smaller 8.8 x 14. I'm also wondering if Costco will drop the price further because I also saw they had a bunch of them.
