Amazing, perfect timing! I almost pulled the trigger on some other 2x48gb kit on Amazon, thanks a lot!

I purchased 64gb of crucial pro ddr5 6000 MHz in early September for $155 for a build to consolidate my 3 old rack mount chassis systems into one. I was going to get the base system set up before purchasing the disks and while the system is up it's overkill for what its currently hosting because it's not worth transferring my other VMs to it yet.

I mean good for you! I personally think the RAM shortage will probably get worse, and I try to not fall for the "anchor effect" too much. There is only now and the future

Remember when supply chain was the excuse for covid high prices. Well covid ended but the prices never went down.

Thats what these businesses do, once they get a taste of the boundaries they can push customers they just keep going

Computer prices actually were going back down before the AI investment bubble went crazy last year. For example, a rough price sampling of an external 8 TB Western Digital hard drive every October for the last 8 years:
  • 2018: $150
  • 2019: $140
  • 2020: $145
  • 2021: $185
  • 2022: $130
  • 2023: $155
  • 2024: $160
  • 2025: $150
  • today: $280

Just to be clear, there is NO shortage or RAM or memory chips as a whole. Just look at Microcenter shelves or offerings from Newegg and Amazon. There is a ton of memory and SSDs, barely less than before. It's not like prices are up because there are no offers, it's an artificial inflation.
