ive got this trimmer, and im not sure what people are talking about. the 4ah battery on it is balanced quite nicely and a fraction of what a gas weedwhacker weighs. like, sure. if you are only weedwhacking 1/10th of an acre, why carry the extra weight. but then why are you even talking about a 40v tool?

this price however, is kind of meh.

That's a heavy battery for a line trimmer. I have brushless 18v and this is brushed 40v. Not a terrible deal, but I prefer the lighter 18v battery and brushless motors.

thanks for letting everyone know, but this is like me saying i prefer a car over a truck because i dont need to haul anything. if you have a small yard and dont need to cut any high grass, then yeah. this product isnt for you.

Not a bad deal. You'll pay this price for just the battery. I have the brushless carbon fiber version and it's been great. I have other trimmers from before but the Ryobi 40v is my go-to now. It just works and has more than enough power.

I understand 15 is not the smallest but they do make a 40v 16 and 17, can anyone with experience comment on these vs this?

To be sure, this is not a smoking deal so I realize it's worth the wait for the right tool. Also, this looks like their older style, so maybe there are meaningful improvements?

I came here for this. I have the same tool and don't find the battery to be a problem

I have the 40V brushless carbon fiber and the older brushed 40V but literally never use them for string trimming, the 18V has plenty of power and it's lighter. I have a fairly big yard and lugging around the 40V wears this old man out.

Did you switch from gas?

I was thinking this would be night and day if its close to mowers.

I have this trimmer. I am not a big guy and am in my 40's, and I have a typical 2 story, 4 bedroom house with a two car garage, a shed, a deck, the side of my neighor's fence, and a playground just to give you an idea of the type of environment. I have no idea the amount that of trimming that is, but it's about 10-15 minutes, maybe 20 if I'm slow on it.

If you balance it correctly, which isn't hard, the 4ah battery added to the trimmer itself really isn't bad. I tried it with a 6ah that I use for the mower, now THAT was hard to balance and I could feel it. I wouldn't recommend it.

To be fair I haven't used the 18v, but the 40v gets it done and isn't a strain on me.

This is a good deal, I wouldn't let the weight hold you back unless you've got real medical issues.

Had this one, and upgraded to the carbon fiber shaft, brushless, expandit - best one yet!
The carbon fiber brushless expandit competes with / beats gas weed eaters.
If you have a urban/sub-urban house on your <1/4 acre, you don't need 40V trimmer 18V is fine - unless you already are using the 40V pushmower and want to stay on one system, then go for it.
Expandit adds perfect options for your avg. homeowner - edger, tree trimmer saw, blower (don't bother), triller, etc.

Absolutely....mine has every bit as much power as my gas trimmers.
