Just wanted to add a data point.

This worked for me today in Texas for an S26+.

I went to Walmart and bought the Moto G 2025 64gb, turned it on and got to the home screen, went to spectrum and traded it in.

Spectrum had to select "Other" for carrier and I got the $400 off plus $705 for the trade in. It seems like taxes were on the price of the phone minus the trade in value, so taxed on $395 at 8.25% taxes were $32.58.

In total I paid $27.57 to Spectrum (1100-400-705=-5 +32.58 tax)

On top of that I paid Walmart $32.35.

So all in was $59.92.

It's instant in the spectrum stores. Online it takes a few weeks.

I think this is one of the cheapest, easiest to purchase phone that qualifies for $705.

Is that on the free line, or did you get a plan?

What plan do you have to get on for this thing if you can't get on the free line?
It's on a free line that I got when I switch to Spectrum for internet in October/November.

Can you please share walmart link?
Edit- Oh, I have Moto G 2024 64GB and went to spectrum last week but they denied it. It was purchased on QVC(Tracfone unlocked already). So wondering what did you purchase and how did you get through
Sure, I purchased this one:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/14552506783

The rep seemed a little confused at first, but I told her that I had to select "Other" for carrier online and it worked. Once she did that it went through just fine.

No, it's correct. Because the ultra is more expensive so there's extra tax on the leftover.
Thanks! I get how they are charging tax now.

I just noticed it before reading your trick here. I am wondering why the heck this system didn't recognize by IMEI. Anyways, I just booked an appointment in store for this afternoon. Thanks for the reply.
On the Walmart link it is locked to straight talk, interesting and also good to know they allowed the straight talk locked devices as part of Trade-in

Snagged an S26+ for ~$20 (tax). With the ~$30 moto g 5g that's $50 total. Bumped the S26 on my free line for this one. Planning to switch it back to the S26 and then unlock both in 60 days. Possible?
Did similar. Some people were able to get both unlocked doing it that way after the 60 days. Others had to put the s26 back on the line and wait an additonal 60 days.

Should we be locked to Spectrum for Internet or Mobile for certain amount of time if we buy this?

I traded my 19 days old Spectrum S26 Ultra for another Ultra and got ~ $263 back in credits (not sure when or how I'll get it, I'll just have to wait a few days and see...) on my second line; and a new Moto Stylus 5G 2025 (Cricket) for S26+ and paid about $90 taxes included. No hassle, just had to wait in queue for half an hour, and was done with the 2 trades in 15 minutes.

I'll go back to trade this new S26+ for an Ultra in a few days which hopefully should get me back about $160 in excess credits.

I was told by the employee that this excess credit can only be used to pay for mobile line services and cannot be used to pay for any part of device or internet payment, which sucks. But hopefully the credit should reflect in my account in a few days, and once there, I'll chat/call to request credit transfer back to my credit card as a refund. My promo rate on the service with 1 free line is expiring in 2 months, by then the price will soar for my account. I'll have to call retentions, but it's not guaranteed that they will extend my current promo, and if not, I may have to cancel the entire service. So if possible, getting the excess credit refunded to my credit card would be great.
Thanks for the info. Trying to follow because I would like to do the same. Did you trade the ultra on the same line you bought it on before or a different line on the same account? Thinking about doing this for the ultra I got yesterday. If like previous years, you can get the credits back on your credit card. If not, you haven't lost anything. As far as free year expiring, I have found when I port the number out, the offer for another free year is there almost immediately. Kind of hiding but found it each time. Have done it at least 4 times. That could have changed and once there is a second line the free line may not come back. Good luck!

Just take your trade-in mobile in store and they will process it. Remember to ask them to choose pay in full option and not over 36 months.
I had a free line yet to be activated. I used that in this deal and unlock is irrespective of which line. It is just 60 days of active service irrespective of free or paid line.
Did they give you time to transfer the data from the old phone to the new phone ?

Do you (or anyone else) happen to know if you can switch devices immediately after leaving the store using the online self-service portal?

I've got 1 line with Spectrum currently that I use an unlocked iPhone 17 Pro on. I have no interest in switching to Android, but want to use that line to do a free S26+, and then immediately switch back to my iPhone as soon as I leave the store.

Plan is to then wait a few days, and open a new line w/port-in to do the $200 off with trade-in on an iPhone 17e (with the hope being I can get that device for around $200 after trade + bonus credit, wait out 60 days on the 1GB plan, unlock, and give the device to a family member.

Would put my net under $300 out the door on the 17e if that all works...

You did this in store or online? I was curious if you can get multiple $700 trade promos on a single line. Terms say no but in the past, you could

The spectrum app lets you switch devices fairly quickly and easily.
