This worked for me today in Texas for an S26+.
I went to Walmart and bought the Moto G 2025 64gb, turned it on and got to the home screen, went to spectrum and traded it in.
Spectrum had to select "Other" for carrier and I got the $400 off plus $705 for the trade in. It seems like taxes were on the price of the phone minus the trade in value, so taxed on $395 at 8.25% taxes were $32.58.
In total I paid $27.57 to Spectrum (1100-400-705=-5 +32.58 tax)
On top of that I paid Walmart $32.35.
So all in was $59.92.

Wasted gas and time driving around.
anyone else in the same boat?
When you took the phone in===what did the front screen show? I looked at an older one that just shows a screen to set up---It didn't show access to the settings--not sure how to get to setting without setting it up and wondering if they will go to settings?

btw, if you don't care for the hassle, just a thought, maybe try trading in your Ultra for S26+, and you should get about $480 (correct me if the number is wrong) back in credits, and later trade that S26+ for Ultra which should again, get you about $160 in credits. I tested online and until the final checkout page, I was again able to see all the credits.
Thanks for the info on getting the free year with the port out trick. I'll try that, and if that doesn't work, I'll call retention.
