Hello, I have a 5.1 speaker setup with 4x elac db53 front and rear speakers, 1 x elac dc53 center speaker, 1x rsl speedwoofer 10s mkii sub, and the onkyo tx-rz30 receiver. I was looking into transitioning to 5.1.4 speaker setup using these klipsch speakers as the atmos height speaker. Would these speakers fit the sound of my system or should I stay within the elac sound ecosystem? Thanks in advance

Note: while a good price, these are $150 new from most retailers.

These aren't on Crutchfield anymore but I looked them up there and there's like 123 five star reviews all singing their praise so they must be good!

"No, Dolby Atmos height speakers do not need to match your Left-Center-Right (LCR) speakers in brand or model. While matching (timbre-matching) offers a more seamless sound, Atmos channels primarily handle discrete effects—rain, flying objects, or directional sounds—rather than panning dialogue or consistent musical tones. "

Most are saying you dont even need to match the center channel anymore.

You don't need your Atmos/height speakers to match your main speakers.

The only speakers that really need to be voice-matched (same brand/line) are your front three - left, center, and right. That's because sound pans across them constantly (dialogue, effects moving across the screen), and mismatched speakers can make those transitions noticeable.

Matching your surrounds is good, too, but it matters less, and your height/Atmos speakers matter even less because they're mostly handling ambient and directional effects, so differences in tone aren't nearly as obvious.

So from a sound perspective, it's totally fine to mix brands for heights. Matching everything is great for aesthetics and consistency, not a necessity.

Here is my take from setting up many different designs.

General opinion since there are many other factors to consider with all this.
1st, technically there isn't a height position for Atmos.
These are designed for one of the positions, Atmos enabled modules.
Like these, sometimes they're designed(or used) for dual purpose, as height/surround positions.
This position was originally designed as an alternative for people that can't/won't do overhead(in ceiling) positions.
Which is the ideal way of doing it.

As far as matching, yes it's ideal.
No different than the reasons people say the LCRs should.

If you look at how the object based codecs works, it should make sense.
In short, it makes for an easier/better seamless integration.

Just as important is the quality of ALL speakers in the setup.
For the same reasons as above.

Since object based codecs(Atmos/DTS:X) work in conjunction with legacy codecs.
I would suggest improving/upgrading your fronts & maybe a 2nd subwoofer before upgrading to Atmos.
Especially if you're going to use the alternative or height position.
