I did this a month ago and got an S26 the same way. I'll do the S26 Ultra tomorrow on the same line.
I do in-store, though. Sales tax is applied differently (since your trade-in is evaluated and applied right away) as opposed to doing it online and waiting for the promo credit to hit.
If you're paying in full, there is nothing involving "3 years" at all. It's paid.
If you do it online, you pay the FULL sales tax of the device and the credit is applied later, no sales tax refunded.
I will literally save something like $95 doing it in-store rather than online.

Today for another line the store manager mentioned they got instructions to to do only 36 months.. No instant discount.. Are there any stores still applying instant trade in discount?

For everybody asking about opening a second line. The cheapest is the $20 by the gig. You also have to pay a $20 activation fee that they will not waive. They only waive fees on free lines. Spectrum prorates the second line so all billing dates match. So you may have to pay a partial month and two full months. They do not prorate when you cancel a line so it will be $20 activation. $40-$60 to get the line unlocked. You may be able to move the phone to the free line and unlock. Again, works for some and not for all. Let's just hope they don't change the 60 day unlock policy which is a very generous policy.
