I did this a month ago and got an S26 the same way. I'll do the S26 Ultra tomorrow on the same line.
I do in-store, though. Sales tax is applied differently (since your trade-in is evaluated and applied right away) as opposed to doing it online and waiting for the promo credit to hit.
If you're paying in full, there is nothing involving "3 years" at all. It's paid.
If you do it online, you pay the FULL sales tax of the device and the credit is applied later, no sales tax refunded.
I will literally save something like $95 doing it in-store rather than online.

$1299.99 - $705 (trade in value) = $594.99 x 8.5% tax (2% local on top of the state) = $49.09.
so it looks like the $400 off is not being taken into account somehow?
Earlier went to a store to try s26+ to Ultra trade on a new line, and the rep tells me in the beginning they have multiple Ultra in stock, so I asked for black. She gets black, and verifies my account and then tells me there's some inventory issue with that new Ultra and that one cannot be used. Also tells me that's the last ultra they have. Wtf. 🫪.
She insists she'll have it ordered online and I can bring the old s26+ to the store for trade once I get the ultra in mail. I refused. She insists I open a new line either way.
Called and chatted with customer service and they don't have my trade-ins on record. They created a ticket so we'll see.

Other than the wasted time not bad at all. Wife's phone upgraded successfully. Now I'll just need a deal when the next fold comes out;
Final cost was like this:
Device Payment Plan - Paid in Full $1,299.99
$701.00 trade-in credit/promo value for Motorola G 5G 2025 -$701
$400 off -$400
Unlimited $40.00/line/mo Next Bill Cycle
Service Discount -$40.00/Mo Next Bill Cycle
One time activation charge $20.00
Activation Charge Waiver -$20.00
New Order Subtotal* $198.99
California E-Waste Recycling Fee $4.00
State And Local Sales Tax $113.75
Applicable Tax Subtotal $117.75
New Order Subtotal $198.99
Applicable Tax Subtotal $117.75 (thanks to CA and the outrageous taxes here)
Grand Total $316.74
Cost of Moto G 2025 $32.65 (tax included)
Final Cost of the entire deal: $349.39
Still a great deal, maybe slightly less so than some people that are luckier to reside in a lower tax state.
By the way, if anyone here in So Cal needs to know which Spectrum store has the S26U in stock and who to talk to to make sure this deal goes through without any headaches or attitude by Spectrum staff, PM me and I'll send you to the right place. There's still a few days left to get in on this, and the store I went to has plenty in stock right now (I think she said something like 25 of them in two different colors).
1-Bought a Verizon Prepaid Moto-G Phone from Family Dollar because it was on sale ($20). Big mistake. Verizon had done something so you cannot pass the "activation" screen. So I had to pay one month cheapest service ($38.xx). So trade-in costed me $58. My own phone (Moto G Stylus 2025) is worth around $150 on ebay, so I guess I should still feel okay.
2-Weirdly the taxes in TX is calculated as if there is no $400 discount. Why?? Are we in California? Taxes is calculated on $590 (1300-710 tradein) instead of $190 (1300-400-710). There is also $20 activation fee. Out the door, I paid $258.XX.
Other than that, everything went smoothly. No one insisted on 36 months payment plan. I asked if unlock possible before 60 days (if I prepay those 60 days) and the guy said no.
Some people here say that they got a cheapest prepaid from Walmart and took it to the Spectrum as-is. I don't know how this worked. The guy did like 10 minutes of testing on the phone. Impossible on an unactivated phone which only shows "Activate Now" screen.
Also did you activate the phone by using the phone itself? I don't mind paying an extra 38 bucks if so.
