I was going to ask what's considered long range and when this would become practical, then saw the item description that 18 miles... 18 miles is the range of this thing! Wow

I have one of these set up to extend my network to the house "next door" (about 100m away, up a steep wooded hill). It consistently gets about 300 Mbps over a 5 GHz channel. I'm only using a single CPE710 at one end - at the other end there is a multi-radio router running OpenWrt. One of the radios is dedicated to the "uplink," and the other two broadcast an SSID for devices at the other house to connect to. I believe performance might be better if both ends were CPE710s, but 300 is good enough for our needs.

Similar to hand held radios, the published range is way inflated and only possible in unrealistic ideal conditions.
Also for the best range you would have one of these on each end for max range
Still a good product for the use case, just be reasonable with your expectations

They used to sell mini versions of these at bestbuy. They worked well for borrowing your neighbors wifi when you had no money as a college student.

This is a copycat product and it usually only good for Point-to-point type of applications. Don't use this if this is just next door. I will use for across streets, blocks or communities.

It goes by line of sight. Maybe 18 miles from mountain peak to mountain peak, but you're not going to hit that in the city or suburbs.
