Phone works with active Mint Mobile and Tracfone T-mobile physical SIM out of the box. Rejects AT&T (h2o).

The service is a big deal if you know how to use it
- Many people harvest the plan by merging it onto an existing TF plan
- Rewards points give you extra data/min/text that you can add on after 2 months
- The number can be transferred to other carriers for port-in deals, ex: get a Galaxy A36 free instead of the TCL phone
- New number gives you new customer promos with various retailers/online services. You can change your Tracfone number 4 times a year. Metro allows 1 free change.

There was a Moto G Power 2024 deal for ~40 each with the 1 year service a few months ago. That phone is also 8GB/128GB with a Dimensity 7020.

open the app info menu for all the bloatware on your device and find where it displays which app installed it then note it down

enable usb debugging

get scrcpy (screen copy/mirror app) from github, shizuku apk and canta apk from github as well.

adb install shizuku.apk
adb install canta.apk

run scrcpy on your desktop. open shizuku app, select "install with adb command" option. click copy button to copy the command.

on desktop go to your adb command prompt and paste the code with ctrl+v and hit enter. you now activated shizuku. open shizuku and grant canta permission. open canta and find the bloatware apps + the installers responsible for them and remove/uninstall.
safe to delete canta/shizuku app if you want.

Consider this a $55 (w/ port-in) 7" e-ink reader that can do much more. I had a B&N 8" e-ink reader w/ lower resolution years ago and it cost more. Easy on the eyes, long battery life, download ebooks on wifi.

Maybe I'm misreading... the total shows up as $110. Is the $55 the price of the phone, and a separate $55 charge for the prepaid service?

If you port in, phone is free but only with a $55 1st month plan (without auto pay), that's how the total is $55+tax.

If you want a new number, phone is $19.99 but minm plan you need to opt is $65/month, otherwise the price will not be $19.99 for the phone (I assume that's what is happening for you)

Stay away from any TCL products if you don't like forced installed bloats after every restarts, every update. Absolutely terrible user experience.
Ok I thought I was crazy when I couldn't debloat my TCL NXTPaper tablet from Tracfone. The Verizon App Manager app re-enables itself after reboot, tried adb and other debloating software without success. I ended up installing a firewall app to block the app from accessing internet to stop the invasive app installs.

I thought it was just a Verizon thing. If this will be the same experience on Metro TCL then this deal is a bust.

Did you try this with any TCL devices? I did. It doesn't work.

For the phone dummies here, can someone explain simply how to get this for $55 as a wifi tablet? Port in a number means you have to already have an existing cell number to ask to be assigned to the phone?

Impulse buyer here, I know I'm amongst friends! What's the process for cancellation? I'm assuming activate the phone with the one month plan then cancel? Any tips and/or tricks?

maybe you can learn something new today. Google shizuku and canta. I used these apps to disable tracfone bloatwares.

Thanks for the tips. Shizuku and Canta were able to uninstall the verizon / tracfone bloat where ADB PM UNINSTALL or DISABLE failed to from my tracfone TCL tablet. SCRCPY made it easy to do everything through a desktop, but isn't required. I was also able to get rid of the persistent verizon notification about sim card missing by uninstalling .com.tct.phone (uninstall at your own risk, not sure if there are any repercussions). Uninstall lasts through multiple test reboots, we'll see if they will last in the next OTA update.

Yes, get a port in a number from a different carrier for $20 or less.

1) Disable auto-pay (disabled by default unless you change it)
2) Don't pay month 2

This is prepaid. There is nothing to cancel. Just don't opt for autopay.
