How's this compare to Milwaukee and DeWalt offerings?

Yeah, but you have to sand the little rails off in the battery compartment

This thing rips and 99 is a fantastic deal. I just loaned mine to my neighbor who used it to cut up a fell oak tree with no issues. I also have a 60v Flexvolt chainsaw. It rips too.

The 18 inch with large battery is 279. Pole saw and pole trimmer are 99 (tool only), I ordered all three. Pretty good deals if you need the bigger battery. I have a mower with the 5 amp battery already and it has been fantastic for years

Would this be a significant upgrade from a Greenworks 16" 40V model (4.0ah battery) that I have? I am finding it to be pretty limited in capability and how long the battery lasts.

Actually I think you have to route a groove into the plastic housing of the battery. The slot is the same but the position is slightly different.
I've done it on a few of the Kobalt batteries to work with Greenworks, and from memory you'd need to do the same thing for a greenworks battery.

It's not hard if you know how to use a router , but I can't imagine sanding could work, unless there is a way to mess with the tool and charger. I personally would avoid going that route.

I tried using a Greenworks battery by grinding down the thick internal rails in the saw so it would fit. The battery does slide in now, but the saw just shows an alert LED and won't run, which likely means it detects that it's not the original battery. Also, don't force the battery in, it can get stuck!!
