I'd probably step up to to the 7500x3D for $299. You get the same massive 3d cache as the top tier cpus to mitigate slow memory pages. That'll keep you functional until when or if the memory prices come down you can get a second stick for dual channel.

A much better deal at $300, this combo isn't selling at $200. Even for a budget build there's better value elsewhere. I'd buy these easy at $150, a maybe at $175, considering the upgrade path, and what the 5500 sells for.

FWIW, I'm on my third pair of GSkill Ripjaws RAM sticks. First pair lasted almost 2 years, second pair lasted 6 months. For whatever reason, they seem to fail a lot (lots of posts about failures online).

There's a lifetime guarantee, so replacement was free, but still a hassle. I would not buy them again.

A few years ago, G. Skill made the best RAM.

But times change and quality always gets worse. Asus is a big example of that, especially with its laptops.
