I ordered these instead:

The problem with the device in this deal is, they're fine if you're outside the car and trying to break the window. But picture yourself inside the car and trying to get a good swing going to break the glass.

The spring loaded breakers provide the force for you. Just aim for a bottom corner of the window. Bonus that they're really small, so you can carry one on your keychain in case an emergency happens in someone else's car. In my car, I have one hanging off the windshield wiper stalk so it's immediately within reach. Think about where you'll keep these larger ones.

Are these like the ones that car thieves use to easily break the glass with zero effort? Never understood why police dept's dont make something like this a mandatory tool to carry. Seems very useful for police work imo.

+1 to this. The hammer style window breaker in this deal is terrible, the spring loaded one linked above FAR superior.

For those of you reading this that think this is never needed search Youtube for Adventures with Purpose. I think they even did a video testing all the different window breakers and they sell their own now that is just a simple spring loaded one like the one from the link above I quoted.

Might be a dumb Q:
Does the headrest of each car seat have two sharp tips
designed to break a car window inside?

If your car side windows have double glass (can't remember the exact term), then I assume these probably won't work. There are some that do, or so they claim.

Laminated glass - Laminated glass is a type of safety glass consisting of two or more layers of glass with one or more thin polymer interlayers between them which prevent the glass from breaking into large sharp pieces.

I've often wondered about these too. Instead of a "hammer" design that is too short to actually use as a hammer, wouldn't a ice pick type design work better? And in a violent accident, what are the chances the tool will stay in that bracket? Wink

Tempered glass does not need much force to break, it just needs a sharp dense metal point/tip to initiate. You don't need a big swing at all.

Fair enough. But I think you've lost the forest for the trees here. Which item is likely more useful from a practical standpoint? Where do you store it? Is it likely to be buried somewhere under years of manuals, napkins, etc in your glove box or console? What if the accident launches it somewhere unknown? What if you can't get any kind of swing going? What if you're in someone else's car?
