I ordered these instead:

The problem with the device in this deal is, they're fine if you're outside the car and trying to break the window. But picture yourself inside the car and trying to get a good swing going to break the glass.

The spring loaded breakers provide the force for you. Just aim for a bottom corner of the window. Bonus that they're really small, so you can carry one on your keychain in case an emergency happens in someone else's car. In my car, I have one hanging off the windshield wiper stalk so it's immediately within reach. Think about where you'll keep these larger ones.

If your car side windows have double glass (can't remember the exact term), then I assume these probably won't work. There are some that do, or so they claim.

I have a giveaway flashlight that came with the window breaker and seatbelt cutter on it. Batteries leaked, but I figured I'd keep it, "just in case". Wanted to buy something like that for every car in the family. I do one-off stocking stuffers like that for Christmas, but your suggestion makes the best sense. Thanks!

I think you mean double pane?

Double pane was what kept coming to my mind, but IIRC that's a term for house windows that have two layers of glass separated by a pocket of air. I asked AI, and it says the proper term is double layer laminated glass. I think that's correct. Basically two layers of glass with a layer of plastic film sandwiched between. So after the glass shatters from a car safety Window Hammer (hit every cornerI think) you have to push on it hard and it will move out in one piece like very heavy cardboard pushing through a sheet of heavy saran wrap. But the Window Hammer on this listing isn't ideal for anything but glass alone. It needs to be heavy enough to shatter the glass on both sides of the plastic sheet, so that the laminated glass can then be pushed through.

This is one of those rare products that you hope is a waste of money because you never use it.

i ordered these about 2 weeks ago, but not worth the return.

I think everyone knows (as someone said above) you hope you never need it, but they're good to have if ever necessary.

If you live where you're constantly crossing water/rivers/etc., I'd absolutely have some...
