If your NVMe drive is thinner, there will be no contact at all. The heat dissipation through the casing will be zero. If you're transmitting large files with a high-speed drive, then a crash could be expected.
In short, if you're using this with a smaller drive, it should be OK. For larger drives, it's not stable.
