Buyer beware. I bought this thinking it would be a decent blend of fescue, bluegrass and ryegrass. I called Scott's (after I bought it unfortunately) and after about 20 minutes they were finally able to tell me that the seed is 60% ryegrass. I understand why they include ryegrass so it greens up quickly but for it to be 60% just ensures you have to reseed in the fall. Lesson learned on mixes..never doing that again. By the way, I'm not casting shade on the deal, just about the product itself

Most of these seed types can only survive 1 year. Similar to contractor grade grass seeds.

I appreciate the warnings on products such as this. I live in the Pacific Northwest and am wondering if anyone has thoughts on other products - particularly seed types - that would work for in this area.

I just put down some of the Costco Scotts EZ Seed Patch & Repair (on sale rn) last week, way too early to see how it does though, but I'm hoping it does okay :3

Used it 3 years in a row and it has been a very good product and has grown where others failed. Yes do your own research as many who complain about seed not germinating did not seed correctly and water twice per day until germinating, and then bitch that the seed failed. Seeding is not a task for the lazy. Cant just throw it down and walk away

You still missed the real lesson which is don't buy Scott's seeds, which are junk. You can get elite grass seed for the same price per pound (without all the weed seeds and moisture add one) and enjoy a healthy lawn forever.
I did this years ago and my lawn holds up much better than neighbors and isn't very susceptible to weeds, drought, stress, etc because I bought top tier rated TTTF seeds that have rhizomes.

Here is what Amazon AI told me about the composition:
Grass Seed Breakdown:

13.59% Silver Dollar perennial rye
12.25% Vision perennial rye
10.89% Fenway fescue
10.87% Wendy Jean fescue
6.79% Gaelic bluegrass
5.45% Momentum fescue
4.09% Jump Start bluegrass
4.06% Abbey bluegrass
The remaining 30% is fertilizer. All grass types in this mix are perennial, meaning they're designed to last year after year. The seeds are also coated with mefenoxam fungicide to help protect young seedlings from damping off and root rot diseases.

I couldn't agree more. We can admit that Scott sells less grass seed proportion on their product comparing to other brands, but it is not correct to say they only sell us weed or not germinate seed.

For grass seed to germinate easily, it needs soil, water, fertilize and time. You can't just bring your seed in the near end spring time, spread it without care about soil, temperate, and water and then expect it will germinate. Usually, people buy grass seed because they think it is easy to grow, just put it out there and then done. The spring bird will thanks them to feed it food instead of green grass Big Grin
