Well after several hours and multiple escalations we finally reached an acceptable resolution, different from the one Darney mentioned above. They were adamant that they could not send a new unit as a replacement for a refurb, but when I asked how they handle warranty replacements when a refurb model is out of stock they mentioned they would send a similar or better model instead. Given that, I checked what was in stock and saw that that Gen5Detect was available, which is a newer, more expensive model, but has the same quick-clean wand and HEPA filter as the V15 Absolute. I proposed they replace it with that one, and to my surprise they agreed. It won't ship until they receive mine, and the warranty period will be tied to the original order, but I'm ultimately satisfied with this resolution and hope the Gen5Detect refurb is as clean as the V15 I received.
I received my V15 several days ago, figured I'd share my experience.
This is my fourth refurbished Dyson. As far as I know they all still work, I've given a few as gifts. Our V10 spent years on cat litter torture duty, and it still chugs along.
That said, it seems quality and attention to detail on their ebay refurb orders has gone downhill from where it used to be. Still happy with the deal, but a couple things to note.
Ordered V15 Absolute Detect, received a version with a regular color tube and purple filter. Not gold w/ blue filter. My understanding is I received a slightly worse filter, for me I don't really care at the price point.
The biggest issue is they sent me the wrong charger cable, I did a phone call with support and after having to video share with them via a very clunky remote support tool, they agreed it was wrong and shipped a new charger. Received one that is shaped differently, so it won't plug into the battery, and also won't fit the docking station. Problem is their shipping is 5-7 business days, so I'm going to be over a week into owning this thing and still unable to use it. The vacuum did come with a little charge, but it won't run any power accessories until it's fully charged for the first time. It's a brick until I get the right charger.
The packaging left a lot to be desired, stuff was just kind of rattling around in the box. But that was the case with my very first one years ago, and there was no damage on arrival. All accessories and the unit appear new or "good as new".
Once I get my charger I'll be pretty satisfied with the deal. I'm okay going through a bit of a rigamarole to save a buck. If this sounds like a nightmare to you, I wouldn't say I recommend their refurbished service any longer.
Yep. Just checked and the Extra is same price with a torque head. Ordered that.
I ordered v8 extra and there's only one big motorhead attachment and the rest are small attachments. I'm expecting two big attachments which include the torque head attachment. Anyone who also ordered v8 extra?
Same. Received a refurb V15 Detect Total Clean Extra, instead of the V15 Detect Absolute that I ordered. Sure, it's nice to have extra attachments, but similar to what astonius mentioned, I ordered the Absolute for the better filter and crevice tool. Of course the Absolute is out of stock now, so I'm worried about how much of a headache it'll be to try and get and right parts sent via their support.EDIT: Only took two hours, escalating to a supervisor, and staying polite and persistent over chat, but I was finally able to get Dyson to put in a replacement order for the wrong model.I have to ship back the one I was sent (using free shipping label they emailed me). Once received, a brand new V15 Absolute will be sent out. Should be a 1-2 week turnaround for the new one to come in.They did mention that they will manually adjust the warranty on the new unit to match 6 months given to refurb units, but at least it'll be brand spanking new, since all the refurb units are currently out of stock.Best of luck to others who are in a similar boat!
No luck for me. Dyson support is of no help, they said since the order was made thru eBay, they can't help. Support on eBay thru seller support is super slow and gave me an option to return the unit. Guess I have to return and wait it it pops up again.

They tried to brush me off multiple times and offered to send multiple accessory kits for free "for my troubles", but I just kept pushing and insisting they bring a better solution to the table. If I were you, I'd just try another agent and keep pushing/persisting, all while being respectful.
I honestly don't know what is going on with Dyson. It's legitimately laughable how terrible they truly are. It's such a shame given how great their products, when functional and complete, can be. It's their customer service and fulfillment, in particular on the refurb side, that is just embarrassingly awful.
I received my replacement unit today. I was cautiously optimistic that it would be complete, accurate, and trouble-free. I don't know why I was given my experience thus far. I started to pull everything out of the box, and the first thing I noticed was the fluffy optic head was a different color. They sent me a prussian blue one (the color included with the Gen5Detect Absolute), despite the body and every other accessory being gray (the non-Absolute color). I thought "that sucks, but easy fix, surely they'll just swap it out". Then I unwrapped the actual vacuum body and immediately noticed the red gasket between the two halves of the cyclones was chipping and peeling out, leaving clearly visible gaps in the seams. This is straight out of the box, mind you, so this should have been caught during inspection (if they had actually done one).
It's just unbelievable how little they care. I have no doubt once I finally reach customer "care" they're going to ask me to send it in, wait another two weeks for another refurb unit to be sent out, and I'm sure that one will also have issues.
UPDATE: call them, don't use their live chat. It was a night-and-day difference in treatment. After a bit of a hold the agent said he would ship me a replacement body. At first he said the cleaner head was out of stock, but I told him the website showed it as available. He came back after another hold saying he could not get authorization to replace the head. I asked to speak with a supervisor. After another longer hold he came back and said he was able to get it ordered as well. Thankfully no requirement to send everything back and no long wait, just a few days for the replacements to ship.
I received what I guess was supposed to be the V15 total detect except the wand said V8? There was also a loose screw in the filter of the main unit that was rattling around. I did the chat on Dyson website like someone else mentioned earlier. They also tried to tell me they can't help with an eBay order but then changed their tune and gave me the order number on the Dyson side and started to help after I asked for a supervisor. I also asked for the gen5 detect as a replacement but they said they were going to send me a v15 absolute unit with quick connect wand and hepa filter. I shipped back the vacuum and it arrived this week, no word yet on the replacement shipment. The box the vacuum arrived in had zero packaging/cushion so I hope it survived in one piece. We will see what I end up with
Finally received the replacement body and fluffy optic head today. So far, so good. Pretty satisfied to have a complete Gen5Detect with a brand new body for less than $300.
