First, they are completely useless against any but the most utterly incompetent criminals, since they're vulnerable to basic de-auth attacks. Any moron with a $25 deauth gadget can completely block the ring cameras connection to your network from over 50ft away; making your ring doorbell nothing but a paperweight long before they're visible to the camera. No technical knowledge or skill is required, it's literally as simple as spending a few dollars.
More advanced wifi cameras prevent deauth, but those are still vulnerable to jamming (though true jamming is more expensive, more noticeable, and gets you in a LOT more trouble once you get caught).
Next, ring has atrocious privacy practices, sharing footage without your consent and adding it to databases. They were also looking to partner up with flock (directly funded by Peter Thiel, the guy obsessed with making a surveillance state and the antichrist, seriously, look this guy up) before the backlash got too severe. By purchasing a ring camera you are essentially making your home part of a private corporations surveillance network, with barely any control over the footage produced.
This isn't even getting into the fact that most functionality of ring cameras requires a subscription, so while the upfront hardware cost is low, the cost of ownership is actually quite high.
Here's a couple of videos going over how atrocious ring is, if you want a deep dive:

In conclusion, don't purchase any ring products. Not only are they functionally useless against even a basic porch pirate with two brain cells to rub together, they're a privacy nightmare, and cost more in the long run than properly setting up a home security system yourself.
