FYI this will not block the ads inside the Youtube app.
But can block most ads on youtube.com website.

In my experience these DNS based blockers interfere with too many legit apps. There are already many free blockers like Ublock Origin.

A few things:
• If you have a raspberry pi (or any linux distro), you can install pihole (https://pi-hole.net/) and block ads (not just browser) LAN-wide, served from ad domains.
• pihole does not block ads served from the same domain with the content, ie youtube.
• You can block youtube ads by using the brave browser.
• UBlock origin can block browser ads, but websites can determine if it's installed, an refuse to serve contents.
• ad servers can also determine if you're using pihole, but it requires more steps for them, and based on what I've seen, very few go through with extra effort.

I tried it a while back. Ran into too many issues with false positives on various apps or sites. But YMMV depending on what you do.

What is the difference between this and just putting dns.adguard-dns.com in your DNS settings, like on your phone for example?

I've had this since it first came out, and it's been great on PC. It actually works, but make sure to download the PC app as well. On smartphones, it only works with a limited number of browsers. I'd recommend getting the cheap lifetime deal instead of paying for a monthly subscription.

bought on a past deal and enjoy it, def works to block ads systemwide on my pc and phone. some of the filters get in the way of shopping cashback extensions so make sure to disable it before making a purchase with them.

uBlock origin. 100% free. Fully supported inside Firefox on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android (can't speak for other browsers or OSes).

This seems to be a subscription for the app alone. I have their DNS service from a previous deal, and I'll never go without it again on my router. I never knew that so many devices were calling home thousands of times a day. Smart tvs, lights, locks, vehicles, ACs, robot vacuum, washers and dryers, garage door openers, Facebook/instagram, many apps on our phones, list goes on and on, are constantly calling home. Who the F knows what they're sending to countries all over the world. DNS blocking stops it all on their tracks.

You might have to put in a little work in the beginning but then you forget about it. Sites that make money by referrals (such as this one right here) might give you issues when clicking links but it's easy enough to disable it when needed. Or I just turn on vpn on my phone when needed and that overrides Adguard DNS.

This is true, but it does offer an alternative.

How to block ads on YouTube

1. Open the YouTube app

2. Select a video

3. Tap Share

4. Choose AdGuard Player

Features

• No ads

Background play

How it works

When you share a video with AdGuard, it opens the link with its in-app browser. This allows AdGuard to block video ads

Isn't this free if you get it as an extension to the browser?
or use adguard.dns.com under 'private browsing' on your phone or as a DNS server to block ads on all devices on that connect to your home network thru router? I heard the servers were located at 94.140.14.14 and 15.15. don't ask me what any of that means, I'm just a kid !
