Get one On Us with any trade on any rate plan. Among all the recent gen boring iPhone Samsung and Pixel phones with no unique design or features, this one seem like an interesting backup phone with its attempt of a unique fake E-Ink screen (LCD) with optimized matte screen surface and polarization for eye comfort.
https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...per-70-pro

This won't be for everyone but is an interesting device if you have lines that doesn't have EIP plans considering the promo allows you to trade in broken devices.

Same IP68 water resistance as flagships, the MediaTek 7300 is old but hard to complain at this MSRP for a carrier custom device. At 4xA78 + 4xA55 on TSMC N4, this is still a decently efficient chip for regular use, same CPU design as MediaTek 8200, 8100 just different clock speeds, CPU performance between Tensor G3 and G2 but more efficient thanks to TSMC N4. Oh and it has fingerprint sensor in power button.

Got this on T-Mobile One plan, traded in a cracked broken iPhone 4S. Do it at Sam's Club or Costco to get the extra $75 gift card and waived $35 fee.

* Also forgot to mention another good feature is this thing supports Dual Physical SIM or MicroSD expansion too. Second SIM slot is either SIM2 or MicroSD card. And the phone still supports eSIM as well, but you are limited to two Active SIM simultaneously so either 2 Physical SIM or 1 Physical 1 eSIM.

Someone also brought up T-Mobile satellite, I haven't tried this but T-Mobile website lists it as compatible with satellite messaging? YMMV

The TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro stands out as a budget phone built for reading, with a 6.9 inch 120Hz matte LCD that cuts glare and feels closer to e paper than a glossy screen. The etched glass finish gets praise for manga and e reader use, and the phone also brings IP68 water resistance, dual physical SIM support, eSIM, and microSD expansion. The main caveats are that it is not a flagship replacement, T Mobile satellite messaging appears limited to messaging only, and the 40 day carrier lock can delay adding a second non T Mobile SIM. Support through March 2028 also feels short for the price.

Common Questions (5)

  • The phone is tied to T-Mobile offer ID R510 Smartphone Promo with Trade (ID260086), with 24 monthly bill credits after trading in an eligible device in any condition. The promo appears to allow multiple upgrades, but there may be line/account limits and free-line restrictions depending on your account.

  • Yes. The matte NXTPAPER display is well suited for reading, and it has been used successfully for manga and as an e-reader instead of a Kindle. It is especially appealing if you want a low-glare screen for long reading sessions.

  • Yes. It has one tray that takes either 2 physical SIMs or 1 SIM plus a microSD card, and it also supports eSIM. Only two active SIMs can be used at once, and the phone is locked for at least 40 days before adding a second non-T-Mobile carrier SIM.

  • T-Mobile lists it as T-Satellite compatible for messaging, but the feature may be messaging-only rather than full app data. That means texts can work over satellite, while apps like WhatsApp may not.

  • NXTPAPER is an LCD with a matte, etched-glass finish, not true e-paper. It reduces glare versus glossy screens, looks better than a basic matte protector, and runs at 120Hz.

I followed these steps when I got mine from Metro:
https://www.androidcentral.com/ph...ings-to-do
Very helpful. The device feels like a descent phone for daily use.

Yes! It's also Dual Physical SIM! Forgot to mention that. Second SIM slot is either SIM2 or MicroSD card too! And the phone still supports eSIM as well, but you are limited to two Active SIM simultaneously so either 2 Physical SIM or 1 Physical 1 eSIM.

Heads up in that this phone won't work with T-Mo satellite. I've been using the SAT service for a few months (was beta tester last year) and it's amazing to get a signal in the boonies. It's an auto switch so no need to dive into the menu. Cheap too with a $10. add for T-Mo customers and $15 for non customers. I also got the SAT signal 20 miles off shore in N Cal. Boat captain had the service too.
I'm not sure about the satellite feature, but T-Mobile does appear to list this as T-Satellite compatible for messaging on their website? "T-Satellite with Starlink This device is compatible with T-Satellite messaging"

I believe it's messaging only, but no data for apps. I could be wrong and a call to T-Mo c/s rep was clueless. Many get the full feature with text and data, but certainly not all. If you look at the language used with regards to say a Pixel 10 vs this TCL, the TCL mentions messaging, but nothing about apps. The Pixel says "powering messaging and apps". I ran across this with the Pixel 9a and it was just messaging/text capable, but no data. That said, the TCL would give one the SAT, but without data and that means no apps for voice calls that Whatsapp gives.

Metro by T-Mobile is running a promo for this same phone if you don't want to do the 2 year contract, there's a separate post for that if you search by the name.

Yes has 1 tray with 2sims in top/bottom position or 1 sim+SD Card in the same tray.

The phone is locked for minimum 40 days to add a 2nd non Tmobile carrier SIM. My 2nd line is Visible which I can't transfer to this phone for at least 40 days after which I can request a temporary unlock.

Very tempting offer but to thoes that can wait it out... I would! I have space for one more EIP but I'm going to wait out for a better phone. "Better offers may soon come a calling if there customer CHURN keeps rising". I took a TCL free phone offer on a EIP( any broken phone trade) years ago as a back up phone (TCL 30 XE 2022) from T-Mobile.

That thing Is slow and clunky and mine came with Android version (11)now on (12), they only gave it 2 additional security updates in the second year. At least the cheapest Moto's get more android updates than that. Heck I took a Moto edge (2022) in the same year on a similar EIP free ( after broken phone trade) offer and that at least got up to android 15 update, and a security patch end of last year.
You know software support for a device is bad when Motorola looks good by comparison. LMAO

I have an old Samsung note 10 and Samsung A71 that have two spare lines. Is it worth trading in one of those two phones for this?
No. Both the A71 and Note10 currently have a promotional valuation from T-Mobile (typically the lowest tier, but nonzero). If you want to maximize value from those devices, and would gain some value from a $50 Pixel 9a, I might recommend the $250 promotional value those devices have on the current offer for the discounted ($299) Pixel 9a. Otherwise you will similarly find that the A71 and Note10 both have other non-zero valuations for other promotional offers with T-Mobile (for example, the lowest promotional valuation for both towards the iPhone 17e is $150).
https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...e-pixel-9a

For the TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro trade you should be looking for any device which has a SIM tray with a legible IMEI and otherwise ZERO trade-in value. The specifics of the trade-in offer recommend only using trade in devices which are either ancient, abandoned and/or broken.
"Trade in any phone in any condition. You must be able to retrieve the IMEI for trade in phone to be accepted."

Good luck!

When done via warehouse club I've seen where ancient devices get a placeholder name for their IMEI. You may want to use (carefully) and IMEI lookup resource just to make sure you're getting it right. This may also be something you can resolve via an assisted transaction (like in a warehouse club).

Good luck!
Jon
