Kobalt has a pretty broad set of tools geared towards homeowners/ DIY. Ridgid has more mechanics shop stuff but there's plenty of overlap at the basic end. Kobalt locks you into Lowes as a supplier, but they also go on sale a lot. Kobalt also has a lot of OPE stuff but a lot of it isn't 24v battery platform. (Ridgid power tools are made by TTI, they compete more directly with Kobalt with the Ryobi brand.)
