I am not happy with mine. It's probably good quality, but the batteries are a limiting factor. It takes at least a minute to heat up, so if I'm doing a piece of heatshrink then 90% of the power used goes to heating up. That can heat up an enclosed space uncomfortably. For larger projects like bending acrylic, the battery just doesn't last that long. I use it maybe once a year when I'm too lazy to drag an extension cord or power station somewhere.

Battery powered devices in general doesn't work efficiently by producing heat. Use a gas lighter for heat shrink tubings.

What size battery are you using? AH capacity?

As a ball park estimate of the runtime in minutes, take the battery capacity in Ah, subtract 1 and multiply by 4 for high, or 10 for low. For example, a 5Ah battery gets about 40 min on low and 16 min on high.

This is by far the worst 20v tool Dewalt makes, I wouldn't pay $49 for it.

To everyone that complains about this tool, you need realistic expectations and bigger batteries.
I run mine with a powerpack battery and it heats up fast and will melt abs plastic with ease. Use the attachment for heat shrink tube and it works great. This thing isn't going to strip paint, but it will help you remove decals with ease. Just don't use a 2ah battery or an old worn out 4 or 5ah. This thing is completely different with a high output battery.

Or a plug, yeah? Batteries are not a good option on many tools.

Cordless heat guns get bad reviews across the brands and corded heat guns are cheap and plentiful. And yeah if you're heat shrinking something in a car or a field nowhere near power, use something that burns gas.

I just tested mine. It uses 145W on low and 340W on high. That number doesn't change after 2 minutes, I assume this doesn't have temperature control. I'll leave it to you guys to figure out battery life for your various capacities.

And corded aren't always practical or possible logistically, hence why tools like this exist. I have a corded Master Appliance heat gun for heavy work, but this cordless one gets used way more often.
