See photo of NSF Standard #2 (American National Standard For Food Handling Equipment) marking on the bucket.

Per NSF:

"NSF/ANSI 2-2025 covers the minimum food protection and sanitation requirements for the materials, design, fabrication, construction, and performance of food handling equipment. Such equipment includes bakery, cafeteria, kitchen, and pantry units and other handling and processing equipment like tables and components, counters, tableware, hoods, shelves, and sinks, among others.

Considerations in play here include the smoothness of angles and corners in a food zone, the usage of fasteners, latches, hinges, and the cleanability of various components for sanitation. These concerns, as well as many others, are outlined in the NSF/ANSI 2-2025 standard."

Any body knows if it's thicker than the regular Home Depot red bucket?

Interesting, I've only seen them at business center, not at regular Costco in my area.

Guess I'm lucky. The seven regular locations closest to me here in SoCal all carry them though they're now "Low in Stock" across the board.

However, I ended up checking FB marketplace and found a business selling used but cleaned food grade buckets WITH lids at $3 a pop so I'm probably going to haggle a bit and go that route.

I just got a response from Costco:

"Item 3535111 is NSF Rated, but it is not food-grade material."
Not correct. These are marked with the NSF 2 rating for Food Equipment. The NSF 2 Standard includes a normative reference to NSF 51 for Food Equipment Materials. Equipment marked NSF 2 must also comply with NSF 51. Non compliance is not an option.

Costco should train their employees on NSF Standards to avoid giving out incorrect information.

It's an even better deal when you stop by the food court and ask them to fill it up with nacho cheese. Just only fill the top one.
Nicely done!

I don't see what the market is here? No lids, most people will want lids. But more importantly, anything I need a bucket for I don't necessarily need a clean one and I have tons from various projects (drywall mud buckets, paint buckets etc). The only bucket I have that's clean and I keep it clean is the bucket I use for turkey brining (and that needs a lid)
Good for you! 👏 Why did you click on this deal for then? To tell everyone how great you are?

can get lids are harbor freight, lowe's, or home depot. I've tested them and they fit. Lids usually run $4.99 or $5.99 from most stores. these normally don't come with lids and they're always sold separate.

Yes but they are not food grade lids. If anyone need food grade bucket and lids, just get them from firehouse subs. They sell their used pickle buckets for 3 buckets and it goes towards first responders.

i'll be using these for yard work, so food grade irrelevant in my case.
