Sort of an interesting debate there. +$400 for the display and more ports is a bit of a stretch for a lot of folks. I've been on the mind that if you're going Pro you really should get the Pro chip. Also, Airs aren't really "budget" given how capable they are. This is solid for the storage and RAM

I ordered a "like new" expecting open box but it was just new. The outer brown packaging was unopened and the MacBook box was also unopened. And of course the warranty didn't start either when I logged into Apple care. Saved an extra $80

Think $1,350 is a waste on an air. May as well save and get a pro at that point. Airs are supposed to be budget

The 13.6" Air no longer makes sense to me in the lineup. Because if you really NEED the power, you're more than likely to be better served by the 14" Pro which is also quite compact but has a dramatically better display and IO. But if you just want a laptop to do basic, everyday things like browse the web and email, you're also better served by the Neo at half the price.

The 15.3" Air however... A machine with no real competitor imo.

0.7 pound weight difference if you travel frequently. I really felt the weight during my most recent 10-day work trip. I also carry a second mobile monitor.

Nah. Not trying to roam around with that inelegant heavy toaster. Looks like a fat Dell. Air all day.

No their not - a budget is a Neo. There's a reason why the Air is easily Apple's top selling laptop to college students.

I've had the Pro and have the Air and the Air just makes more sense for carrying around due to weight difference. The new air M5 is actually very performative now. This is a great deal who are looking for this form factor.

I have the M4 air 16gb and a 32gb T14 gen 6 ryzen, I use the T14 at home and take the M4 daily when I go to the city. I prefer Fedora on my Lenovo but love the screen, trackpad and battery life of the M4. Grabbing the M5 is a no brainer with the added ram. Helps I can easily sell the M4 here in Colombia for probably what I paid for it months ago.

I got my MacBook Pro M5 for $1,349 at Costco. It only has 16GB memory and a 512GB SSD, but it feels like a much better value than this Air since the display is incredible. I'm sure the difference between 16GB and 24GB RAM will matter a lot for some people though.
