Is there a different brand or ecosystem that you'd recommend over this for the price?
At 40mm it gives you just a little more room than a typical 50mm, but if you switch the camera to sensor to DX rather than FX mode, it makes for a great portrait length lens. I assigned one of the function buttons on my DX for this, as it essentially turns any prime into two different lenses. For stills you could crop down later for the same output, but for video it's a game changer, and the video functions are where the Z6 lineup is incredible.
As for a case, with the 40mm F2, the camera fits perfectly into the Lowepro Adventura SH 100r: https://www.bhphotovide
I always keep a clear UV/protector filter on the lens rather than the opaque lens cap. That way I can pull the camera out and start shooting immediately if something catches my eye, even if I forget to take off the cap. This case fits that camera+lens combo like a glove, is small enough that it doesn't draw attention, and has a soft lining over the lens area that doesn't scratch the filter when I use it like a lens cap this way.
The old saying goes that the best camera is the one you have with you, and with this kind of setup it's easy for me to grab it and go just about anywhere, and it produces amazing results. I honestly think you could shoot a feature film on the Z6 III with this lens, and it would look great

I've been shooting my old D3300 with Sigma 100-400 birding every week.. My friend (also birder) just got the Z50ii and while it's nice, I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go Z8 with the 180-600 Z lens. I'm hoping it goes sub 5k for the combo maybe 4th of July sale? π€π€ͺπΊπΈ
