Are we talking about Nikon factory refurbs, because I've never seen anyone get one with more than a few thousand clicks, and in as new condition. What you're describing sounds more like 3rd party "refurb" or just plain used cameras.

Dang. Was about to pick up an R6 Mk ii but this is tempting. Anyone have a comparison? Used to shoot Nikon but sold all my gear, so starting over with lenses etc

Z50II is more like the budget choice. Most people treat it as a capable second body for wildlife/birding along side Z6III/Z8/Z9. ( Z50II + 180-600 gives a good reach, but you might need to dial up ISO …)
I have z50ii + 180-600 for birding...a little denoise software and you are totally fine. I think if you're considering full frame, go z8 to justify the upgrade since z6iii is 24.5MP vs. 45 of z8

I believe they're very close except the z6iii has better video capabilities, plus Nikon Z mount has 3rd party lenses available (if that's your bag) vs Canon's locked full frame RF mount

For the camera enthusiasts out there, what is the single most well rounded lens that you'd recommend for this? What about carrying case?
Is there a different brand or ecosystem that you'd recommend over this for the price?
If I could have just one lens in this system, it would be the 40mm f2. This is the lens that convinced me to get a Z mount camera. It consistently produces shockingly good photos for its size and price (often around $200), and especially with the Z6 it makes for a compact and fairly light full frame combination. I believe NASA is actually planning to use this lens on their moon landing camera.
At 40mm it gives you just a little more room than a typical 50mm, but if you switch the camera to sensor to DX rather than FX mode, it makes for a great portrait length lens. I assigned one of the function buttons on my DX for this, as it essentially turns any prime into two different lenses. For stills you could crop down later for the same output, but for video it's a game changer, and the video functions are where the Z6 lineup is incredible.
As for a case, with the 40mm F2, the camera fits perfectly into the Lowepro Adventura SH 100r: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...0r_ii.html
I always keep a clear UV/protector filter on the lens rather than the opaque lens cap. That way I can pull the camera out and start shooting immediately if something catches my eye, even if I forget to take off the cap. This case fits that camera+lens combo like a glove, is small enough that it doesn't draw attention, and has a soft lining over the lens area that doesn't scratch the filter when I use it like a lens cap this way.
The old saying goes that the best camera is the one you have with you, and with this kind of setup it's easy for me to grab it and go just about anywhere, and it produces amazing results. I honestly think you could shoot a feature film on the Z6 III with this lens, and it would look great

Excellent camera, bought one same price 3 months ago. It's basically new without original box, as it had only 6 shots when checked immediately after receiving. It has everything for flagship Z8 but smaller sensor (24.5mp).

Rumor has it that we might see a Z8II this year. That would likely mean some steep discounts on the Z8. Just something to consider. After buying my daughter a Z5II and using it a bit (love it!), I have an itch.... so I'll be watching closely.
I just saw a rumor video on YouTube today saying it was going to be the Z9ii that lands late this year or next year.. Oh the rumors.

Exactly what I've been thinking right here.. Buy once and cry once..
I've been shooting my old D3300 with Sigma 100-400 birding every week.. My friend (also birder) just got the Z50ii and while it's nice, I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go Z8 with the 180-600 Z lens. I'm hoping it goes sub 5k for the combo maybe 4th of July sale? 🀞πŸ€ͺπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
