I put a moto tag in mine and tossed it in my trunk. just make sure you get some very quality batteries if your plan is to leave it for years.
I went with the Energizer Ultimate Lithium when they were previously on sale (these were $16 in February)

A lot of people who use AirTags in their cars and elsewhere will remove the speaker on it so that a thief who steals the car (or other thing) will have a harder time finding the AirTag when they get a notification that one is "following" them.

I bought the "5-year AAA" version because it was shorter in length, but taller bc the AirTag is placed above the batteries. I use them with gen2 AirTags. They're sturdy and work great.
My only complaint is I wish they had a place to put the battery cover. So it doesn't get lost

I recently used one of these and got searched by TSA because the device looked suspicious on the X-ray.

The only downside is that the case muffles the sound of the airtag a little bit, but the Find My works great (especially on an iPhone 15 or newer with the improved location)
