Perfect timing. I'm playing through part 1 for the first time. I'm enjoying it. I'll definitely get this!
Definitely play thru Borderlands 2, and get the DLC (esp Mr Torgue and Tiny Tina - absolutely hilarious on top of being great gameplay). Borderlands 3 is missable IMO.
I really want part 4 to be good bc I loved 1 and 2 so much, but user reviews on Metacritic are pretty harsh. Skeptical.
Really? Seemed to me to be pretty much exactly like the early games but with updated graphics and systems, etc. Framerate was fine on Series X. I just put 30-40 hours into it and got kinda bored and moved on. But definitely had a lot of fun.
You seriously had as much fun playing, laughed as hard to the dialogue as BL2? You find the story just as entertaining? DLC as good as Mr. Torgue and Tiny Tina? I found myself getting very bored in BL3 - just going thru the motions. And skeptical that BL4 is any better than BL3.....

I suspect that nostalgia/novelty has a huge impact on how a lot of the BL community views the series. BL1 was fairly popular, but BL2 was many people's first interaction with the series (or the first time they got what they actually wanted), and just like many people hold bands they discovered in junior school in a little higher regard than a more objective person might, I think a lot of the community puts BL2 on an untouchable pedestal because the feeling of discovering the series simply can't be replicated with sequels.
I've played every major installment and DLC (many both solo and couch co-op), and I think both BL3 and BL4 are objectively better overall games than BL2. Granted, Jack is an amazing character (which is what many people actually mean when they say BL2 had a "better story"), but the first 15 levels of BL2 are my least favorite stretch in the series, the overreliance on slag is annoying, and it lacks QoL stuff we take for granted in later games (mantling, efficient inventory management, better fast travel, etc.). BL3's main villain was bad, but many of the side missions were very amusing/fun, and the jet pack in BL4 is literally game-changing.
I'm a big couch co-op person, so I've introduced several friends to the BL series that way. All three times I've started a BL2 playthrough with a person new to the series, they've asked if we could play a different one within 20 hours. Those same people had a lot of fun in BL3 and TTW.
I have around 120 hours in a Vex playthrough of BL4 (including the first story DLC), and it was a blast. There are definitely small annoyances ("search this area" missions tasks are awful), and the main villain is lacking again, but the overall story of working with three main groups to overthrow the villain is solid, some missions are actually heartfelt/semi-serious, and the combat/gameplay is incredible. I got the Super Deluxe version, so I can't wait for the other story DLCs to be released. I play on Xbox Series X with no performance issues.
$20 for the base game seems like a very good price to me.

I'm playing BL 3 non stop for the past many months and over a year now... Loved BL 1 a lot and played most of the DLCs as well back in the day until I got bored and stopped gaming for a few years. I have the GOTY edition.
Started with BL 2 and completed the story with 2 characters Salvador and Lilith. But the grind in the game is so boring and all of that for nothing. Went half way through TVHM and then stopped playing and started with the pre sequel. In between the pre sequel, somehow started playing BL 3 and loved it so much that got the pack which includes every game in the series. This is after I got the handsome jack edition and before that I got individual game discs. So now I have multiple copies of the same game from BL 1, 2 and 3.
Anyways coming back to BL 3, just love the game so much that I've gotten addicted to it. Play if every day and can't think of anything else. The leveling up is not a grind. The end game content is so good. The DLCs are great. The weapons that you get every 10 mins are so much fun and so much thinking to get the build right for raid bosses. I play solo and offline... So doing the takedowns or the slaughter domes on TVHM M11 in true trials mode with the different weapons, shields, artifacts and comms becomes so much fun and an obsession.
The QOL in the game the lack of grind but still having to create a build for the end game is definitely way better in BL 3 and only the 1 character in BL 2 is better.

Huge, I mean huge fan of the first 2. I couldn't get through 3 or the prequel. I am guessing this one will suck as well.

If you've never played BL then I would say that get the pack which includes the first 3 games and all is content. If you just want to play the game to the end I'm the first playthrough then all the 3 games are fun. The DLCs are good too. But if you want to play again or build your skill tree and do some end game content, then BL 3 is the only game where you will have fun. BL 2 is a grind like no other and the game and the QOL are wildly outdated, so the grind feels even worse.

I guess I just miss laughing hysterically thru Tiny Tina and Mr. Torgue. Jack too of course, but I think he takes a back seat to these two. Gameplay is excellent, and storytelling is 10/10 in BL2. BL1 was a similar experience. By the time BL3 launched - a few enhanced features did not make up for a completely meh storyline - IMO. Took me much longer to care enough to finish it. Felt like a cash grab.
I would have paid $40ish for this... IF the CEO wasn't a dbag about pricing and performance. Ill wait to play this until its absolutely bargain bin. Some sort of $10-15 Humble Bundle super pack. Get bent Pitchford.
