Kobalt's 80V self propelled mower is being treated as a strong cordless option for yards that need more than a basic push mower, with clean cuts, good power, and noticeably quieter operation than gas. The shared 5Ah battery system is a plus for owners who already use Kobalt 80V tools, and the mower is described as easy to use once the rear wheel drive behavior is understood. Battery life is the main watchout, especially in thick grass, hot weather, or larger yards, where extra batteries may help. The deal also drew price adjustment and rebate chatter that could bring the cost down further.

Common Questions (6)

  • For a tiny, perfectly flat lawn, the self-propel feature may be unnecessary because the mower is light enough to push. On hills or even small inclines, self-propelled assistance is useful and a push-only mower can become tiring.

  • A price adjustment has been credited after buying the mower at a higher price, including a $409 purchase that was adjusted to the lower sale price. One adjustment was done through online chat for $30 back, while another attempt was reportedly denied, so results can depend on the channel and agent.

  • The batteries are warrantied for 3 years, and real-world life is often around 3-5 years depending on use and climate. Thick or tall grass drains them faster, and keeping blades sharp, the deck clean, and mowing more often helps extend runtime.

  • The self-propelled version is useful on hills and in hot weather, and the mower can deliver clean cuts with enough battery life for a typical yard. In soggy spring conditions or very tall grass, electric mowers can stall more easily and battery life drops faster.

  • Yes, the 80V 5Ah battery can be shared with other Kobalt 80V tools such as a string trimmer. That makes the mower more useful if you already own or plan to buy other Kobalt 80V equipment.

  • Yes, it is much quieter than gas mowers and can still be quieter even when running alongside one. That makes it a better fit for noise-sensitive neighborhoods.

So much bad information in this thread. Unless you have a tiny flat lot, you will absolutely want a self-propelled mower. And my electric mowers are terrible in the spring when the ground is soggy and the grass is growing like crazy. Need to keep on top of the mowing like twice a week in the spring or an electric mowers will constantly stall out in the tall grass. The person saying an electric mower is as good as a gas mower is 100% wrong. That said, in summer when the ground is dryer and the grass is growing more slowly, the electric mowers work much better.

Looks like the entire line on sale. Extra Battery is on sale for $79.

All my equipment is gasoline now. Anybody know about how long the batteries last before going bad? I live in a hot climate that tends to eat batteries for lunch. Even car batteries don't last more than about 3 years here.
Store batteries indoors.

You might just have a bad electric mower. I've had a 40v greenworks that's nearly 10 years old now that works fine in thick grass. The battery life drops off quite a bit in thick grass, but it cuts well enough that my neighbor came over to tell me he was surprised it didn't stall out where our yards meet because his gas mower did in the same spot.

Anyone want a free 20% off coupon to use with this or any other lowe's product up to $100 in savings? You need to use a Lowe's credit card with it or it doesn't work, but it's yours if you want. First come, first serve. It's only good for one purchase, so be quick if you want it.

Bought this and have cut the yard twice so far. Once getting used to the rear wheel self-propel needing a small amount of disengagement time, can say I'm happy with the purchase. Clean cuts and sufficient battery life.
I've had this since 2021. It's not a time based disengagement, it's a clutch(?) that needs you to push it forward an inch or two manually before you can roll backwards. So next time it locks on you, just push it forward manually a little and then it'll instantly unlock.

One thing I noticed is there is big noise when the 80v battery is charging, is the fan cooling the battery?
Yea the battery charges fairly quickly for how big it is so the fan helps keep things cool

Ordered one my gas one is acting up it's 20 years old. Didn't really want to electric but our masters in California stopping gas mowers.
They're so much quieter it's insane. Me and my one neighbor have electric mowers and the neighbor on the other side has a gas. Even if both of our electric mowers are going at the same time, they're still quieter than the gas mower.

$379 deal had not expired, yet price increased to $399 anyway? I was out of town when $379 deal hit and was waiting to get back home. Sounds like credit for the difference has variable results.

I own the push version for 9 years, and I own a Kobalt trimmer using the same 80V battery. I have three 5 Ah batteries with two chargers that can be shared.
My yard is less than 1/4 acre front and back. Overall, it took me 2.5 batteries to finish everything. So when I am done with the 2nd battery, 1st battery normally is almost charged up. If not, I still have the 3rd battery not used yet. I am overall quite happy with the system.
I assume the non-push version will eat battery faster, but it could be really helpful in the brutal Texas summer for me.

Only go for push, if your lawn is perfectly flat which is rarely the case. Even with small incline, you eventually feel the need to assist pushing but have no such option with push.I bought the Greenworks push mower on exactly the same advise a few years ago, replacing a gas self-propel, and this was a stupid move. Still looking for decently priced self-propel 80V which this one definitely isn't. There were 2-batteries Greenworks slef-propelled deals for under $300 in the past, but for now this is an OK deal.
There ain't ever been a deal for a greenworks self propelled 80v w/ two batteries. Stop it.

This was an 80v self propelled mower w two batteries. Mine was brand new, batteries were great. is my backup mower for the slopes if the tractor's doing something else, as this outclimbs some other civilian gas mowers I've tried when it gets steep.
