For the trend of SSD prices, it is good if you are in the market for one.

Quote from WallStreetBets :
Can somebody tell me if this is a good deal or not so I can decide whether to buy from BH photo. I want to support Jewish businesses as much as possible.
This drive was $210 in October, $300 something when released, so ~2.5x its best price ever. If you need a 4TB Gen 4 drive, I would say yes.

Original price $2020? Didn't know we had such technology in 1999.

FYI, this drive doesn't have a DRAM cache and uses HMB for caching. As the drive fills with data, performance will start to drop off.

You think once all the tech oligarchs get their AI overlords established RAM/SSD prices will go down? Or are they burning through them so fast now that the consumer will just get the leftovers at 400% 2025 prices?

Nope, These were $209 a few months before they starting to jack the prices up because of the AI ingestion. I can wait till prices come back to normal, no rush to jump on paying more than double the price.

Agreed. Fake MSRPs should be illegal. Here is the launch announcement for the SN7100...

https://www.westerndigital.com/co...e-holidays

The 4TB launched later, but the 2TB launch MSRP was $160. The 4TB sure as hell wasn't $2,019.99. And even with the current AI component shortage apocalypse, the OEM currently shows an MSRP of $1,276.99 on their website.

+1 this listing should be removed as this shouldn't be normalized and encouraged

I mean there's a scramble to get as much supply to come online so eventually prices will probably come down. But you shouldn't count on tech getting "enough" storage and ram any any point, possibly ever. OTOH this might even make storage cheaper if economies of scale get big enough.

Wild. I bought the same thing for a little over 200 a little over a year ago.
