It has different settings for tension(?). I am not sure of the correct terms, but I started on the highest setting and forced myself to adapt, so I don't know if the different settings actually work. The seat is hard plastic, so I ended up buying a cushion for it.
I am down close to 30 lb. plus increased muscle. After breaking my foot and still needing surgery, I needed something that wouldn't cause additional damage while getting a decent workout and creating a positive habit.
So far I haven't had any issues with it other than the strap getting off track a few times during one session. This was and wasn't the machines fault. I was having a very weak day and my form was off, causing it to wrap back into the machine incorrectly. I could see this being an issue in the future if I am not paying attention. It was fixed by just pulling the bar out as far as it would go, and letting it wrap correctly. I think it could have been a bigger issue though, if it got stuck wrong. I am also pretty tall, so I feel like my knees should be lower before I start to push/pull to avoid the bar hitting them, but with no other experience, I am not sure.
At the end of the day, the machine works for me. Tempted to buy a second and send it to my mom out of state, so I don't break my streak when I visit.
Regarding rowing, it is one of the best full-body workouts you can do. I was on my college crew team. I own a Concept2 erg since 2014, which was $900+. Having a rowing machine at home is the perfect all-in-one-workout for cardio & strength (shoulders, back, abs, arms, legs). All without any impact on knees, such as running. The mere fact you will be active is what counts. Row 2000-3000 meters a day, cut out bread, rice, sugar, dairy, and you'll see great results within 30 days.
Cons: After a few months of use the rollers began making sort of light knocking sound, like if the seat was going over some bumps on the rail. Turns out the two plastic rollers had cracked under my 190 lb weight. I think, the seat came adjusted improperly and it was wobbling left and right a little. I had no experience with the machine and couldn't tell if it was adjusted correctly or not when I began using it.
Their support responded promptly, and sent four new rollers with video instructions on how to replace them. It took about two weeks for the package to arrive and I was able to replace rollers easily. Since I adjusted the seat following their instructions, there is no more wobble and so far no issues with rollers.
I also experienced the strap going off track when I get distracted once in a while. That left some sort of a mark on the strap; however, it doesn't look damaged, so I'm not worried about it.
Pros: it's magnetic, which is quietest of all types of rowers. That was a crucial for me, so that I don't bother my family while exercising in the evenings.
Affordable. Doesn't take too much space (plus it folds). Good quality for the price IMO.
The rowing process is incredibly boring (to me at least) with repetitive motions and no change of the scenery. I use 10" tablet and watching/re-watching sci fi shows (Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Star Treks, and now Babylon 5).
I still haven't used other rowers and can't really compare it to something else. However, I think it well worth $204.71 (incl. taxes) that I paid for it.

I bought this October 29th last year at full price. I have no experience with any other rowing machine, but I have used it every single day since it arrived on November 2nd. I am pleased with it. It's not super fancy. The screen is very basic and distance is tracked in miles not kilometers. I wanted an inexpensive machine to get used to, so I could decide if I wanted something nicer in the future.
