Good deal if you need 11 internal powered channels & want Dirac.
If you only need 9 channels, if/when this sale comes back for the RZ30 for $700, would be a better one ime.

How many max. number of processing (preamp) channels does it support? For example Denon AVR-X6700H and AVR-X6800H, while being 11.4 do 13.4 with external power amplifier driving the 12th and 13th speakers

It only supports 11 plus 2 subs...you can add more subs with a DSP or splitter. Keep in mind the Denon AVR-X6800H is $3800 unless found on sale. If a person needs 13.4, then yes, definitely go for the Denon or another brand. I have this RZ70 running 7.2.4, and it is serving me well. If I were running six ATMOS speakers, then I wouldn't have bought it.

If you mean this unit, max is 11.

If you mean the RZ30, max is 9.

The 6700 is only 11.2, the 6800 is 11.4.
Yes, both will process 13 channels.

Keep in mind if you use Dirac you would need to purchase DLBC for subwoofer/bass correction.

I suspect they are getting to the end of the road for this unit..they have already shown newer models at CES

So you can roll the dice, but at this point its probably how long does existing inventory last

People have bought the Denon X6800 for $2200-2500 on AVS forum from authorized dealers
$3800 is grossly overpriced in my opinion, especially when you add the costs for Dirac into the mix. That would be a must have for me if I was using it as my main home theater unit

Keep in mind that the RZ70 actually has a more robust amp/power supply performance than the Denon X6800, according to some details on the Audio Science review website

You would have to step up in Denon model to meet the same performance levels in that regard

In my opinion, this is a solid deal for $1500
I have owned the sister unit Pioneer LX805 and now own the Integra 8.4 and for the money I have zero complaints

With current turmoil, if it does not by much imo.Keep in mind, the new unit will likely cost substantially more with little upside over this for the majority of people imo. This will keep its value just like the RZ50 has because of that imo.

To be fair, not a fair comparison.
1st no one buys/pays MSRP..... well besides RZ50 owners on release date... ouch!

You only consider the 6800 if you need 13 channels.
With that you get 4 independent sub outs, independent preamp mode,Wides,3 pairs/position Atmos speaker placements & access A1EVO game changer for Audyssey.

If Dirac is a must the 6800 offers that option for $300($240 on BF) & even has the option to Dirac's latest RC ART!

This unit will not get any of those options.

From my personal experience that better robust amp/power supply performance is only on paper.
In real world use, in sonic performance, good luck telling the difference.

For me I'll easily take D-ART over paper performance.

MSRP is grossly inflated...in my opinion

But even at a $2500 X6800 buy and basic Dirac and mic you are $1200-1300 more than the RZ70
if I was using the unit for majority home theater there would be no question, I would buying the Dirac license

From my ownership experience a better amp power supply can be more than on paper..it really depends on the individual situation

Frankly for that big of a dollar difference. If you were making changes anyway...I would put the extra $1200( or more ) into better speakers
In my opinion, that will make more of a difference anyway

Well TBH people were getting the 6800 close to $2k.
What unit offers 13 channels, all those other features including access to D-ART for $2k?

I agree, spending $1500 for this when you may need better speakers or don't need 11 channels, not ideal.

Lucky for many Denon/Marantz owners, they no longer feel they must have Dirac, especially for the cost!

A1EVO has been a game changer, you can see the many many happy owners over on AVS!

$2K will not obtain you Dirac art and 13 channels on any product that I know of...Please name one for $2K all in?

I was speaking specifically on the difference in price between the two units as one is down on specs...the cheaper of the two actually, versus the higher priced Denon
I think $1200( or more) difference is another world of price in that price range

Actually...what I see on AVS...especially Marantz AV10 and Dirac A1H owners is that they have bought the full suite of Dirac!!
And some of them have stated that they think it should be standard based on the prices they paid

Not sure if AI is accurate on this, but if so, this is a hell of a price.
"MSRP/MAP (Minimum Advertised Price): The standard MSRP for the Onkyo TX-RZ70 is roughly $2,799 - $2,899.
Dealer Cost Structure: For premium audio components, dealer margins often sit around 30% to 40% off MSRP. Therefore, the actual dealer cost is likely in the $1,700 - $1,900 range."

Might be a great deal, but im not upgrading until we have receivers with the rz-30. Biggest issue ive had with my old onkyo rz and my current pioneer vsx 305. Ports constantly dying or giving picture and no sound. Yes ive replaces ultra high speed cables many times.
