Slickdeals - WTF memory usage wayyyy up

738 306 Yesterday at 05:03 PM
I am using a Mac Mini M$ and Chrome. Recently, my memory usage in Chrome shoots way up when I open Slickdeals. For instance I may have 8 tabs open, which use 13 GB. When I open SD, the memory usage shoots up to 16 or 17 immediately, and then continues to climb, until it usues so much memory (around 32 GB total for chrome alone, that the computer becomes unusable, and the Force Quit Applet "Your System has run out of application memory" pops up. This is the only site doing thsi, and it seems to only happen on the "Deals" site, not when I go on the forum. Analyzing the code, I see thatb there are a lot of scripts running, but I am not well versed enough to identify which one may cause this.

Any good advice would be appreciated.

Solved

OK, I hope this will be helpful for others: I had Claude analyze the tab, and it pointed to an injection script, likely caused by a Chrome extension. I removed a few, but it appears to have been the Capital One extension, since memory usage dropped by 2 GB after I removed it and has stayed low since.
