Google Pixel Fold is drawing interest as a surprisingly capable foldable with a big inner display, but it is also notably heavy. The open box listing adds some appeal at this price, and the unlocked model may matter for bootloader tinkering and alternative software. The main cautions are short security support on some units, uncertainty around warranty coverage, and reports of open box wear ranging from scratches to inner screen defects. A solid option if the foldable form factor matters more than long support or pristine condition.

Android tinkerers who want an unlockable bootloader, because it can run alternative software like LineageOS.
charcaroth copper4X
People wanting a foldable phone for work presentations, because the large inner display makes it easy to show content on the fly.
iluvgudeals
Buyers who want a heavy-duty pocketable screen, because the phone is surprisingly awesome but quite heavy.
fedexit22

People who need long-term security support, because it only gets security updates until the end of this year.
HilariousFuel2927
Shoppers who need a pristine open-box unit, because one arrived with scratches on the front screen, camera bezel, and a bump in the inner crease.
moctezumax
People buying without warranty coverage, because a dead pixel can appear on the inner screen after a few months.
orram

An unlockable bootloader would enable installing alternative Android software such as LineageOS.
charcaroth copper4X
The phone can receive security updates until 2028, which supports longer-term protection.
asdf002
The open-box purchase can still deliver a surprisingly awesome foldable experience despite the form factor.
fedexit22
Insurance reportedly can refund for a defect while allowing the buyer to keep the device.
Quality-Learing

The open-box unit can arrive with visible wear, including scratches and a bump in the inner screen crease.
moctezumax
Security updates reportedly end at the end of this year, which can limit long-term support.
HilariousFuel2927
Insurance coverage for defects may require sending the phone in, and it may not be possible to keep it.
orram
Buying without a warranty can be risky because a refurbished Pixel Fold reportedly developed a dead inner-screen pixel.

Common Questions (5)

The original Pixel Fold appears to have two model variants, and the unlockability depends on which one you get. The GA04102-US5G is described as the likely unlockable model, while the GA04108-US is described as the carrier-shipped model; an unlockable bootloader would allow LineageOS.
charcaroth sillar68 charcaroth copper4X
A warranty is strongly advisable because the inner folding screen can develop defects like dead pixels or a visible dot. One reported insurance claim was refunded, while another required sending the phone in rather than keeping it.
orram Quality-Learing orram
The Pixel Fold is reported to get security updates until 2028, which is five years from release. Another comment says support ends at the end of this year, so the update window is a key thing to verify before buying.
HilariousFuel2927 asdf002
Condition can vary by unit. One arrived with scratches on the front screen and camera bezel plus a bump in the inner-screen crease, while another was described as like new.
moctezumax iluvgudeals
Yes. It is described as quite heavy, which is noticeable but expected for a foldable phone.

If anyone is in need of a case, Verizon is liquidating the actual google cases for $6. Was able to pick one up locally and got one shipped

Got mine today finally, it's obviously used. Scratches on the front screen and camera bezel. Also a bump in the crease on the inner screen. It's going back.
