Honest question. Maybe I'm missingsomething, but what's the deal with these super high amp ratings in the thousands of amps when a normal car battery is typically only rated to provide around 400 - 800 amps which is plenty to turn over your engine to start it. Seems like anything with 1000 amps or more would be more than enough to start most cars so why these super inflated amp ratings in the multiples of thousands? Starting to be like Lumen ratings with flashlights and wattage ratings with amplifier's.

I've had a couple of these and I think either A) it's so it doesn't drain so fast and you can get multiple jumps from one charge. And B) it's high enough to supplement the dead battery AND to start. Don't forget it's only wired in by the clamp connection.
That's just my guess. Mine did high amps and I can get 5 jumps before I need to recharge it.

You're confusing output current with capacity. This packs rated capacity is 7.2 Ampere-hours or Ah for short, but in this context, more commonly called 7200 milliampere-hours or Mah for short.. This is the capacity metric that dictates how many jumps you can get out of it before it's dead. 4000 amperes or A for short on the other hand is it's rated current output. These are two very different metrics. This battery jumper pack has a rated capacity of 7.2Ah, with a 4000A rated current output. If a typical car battery can only provide around 500 to 800 Amps of current, all your external power source needs would be the equivalent, even a little less should be fine because your installed battery has some overhead power & can actually provide quite a bit more current than exactly what's needed to turn your engine over. Imagine hooking up a second but identical charged car battery to start your car. That would work but it's still only providing the same amperage as your installed battery can, which is again typically less than 800 amps. For example, my minivans battery is rated for only 550 cold cranking amps & is more than adequate, even when I don't drive for a week or longer and the voltage of my old ass battery drops into the low 11's in volts,(basically close to 10% capacity) which sometimes it does because it's old, it's still been enough to turn my engine over and start. I've been putting off getting a new battery for a while now. When it stops starting, which will probably be soon I'll get a new battery.

I'm a bit confused. According to Price Intelligence, this jumper pack has never cost more than $18. But when I check "Price History" on the actual product page, it shows it's price has gone up and down pretty significantly. What's the dealio?
