Unlocking your mobile wireless device
When purchasing a mobile device from a wireless carrier, the device is generally programmed to operate only on that carrier's network. To use the mobile device on with service from another carrier, it must first be unlocked.
We're committed to providing you with clear information about unlocking your mobile device.
If you purchased your device from Metro by T-Mobile or if you have a Metro by T-Mobile authorized device, please follow the steps outlined below to determine your eligibility for device unlocking and to unlock the device. To unlock a mobile wireless device which was not sold or authorized by Metro by T-Mobile, you will need to contact the mobile carrier, manufacturer, or retailer that sold you the device.
Metro by T-Mobile's approach to device unlocking
Once a device becomes eligible for unlocking (eligibility requirements are described below), it will automatically be remotely unlocked within two business days by Metro by T-Mobile.
Some devices cannot be remotely unlocked by Metro by T-Mobile. In these cases, Metro by T-Mobile will send a notification to the device within two business days of it becoming eligible. The notification will explain the next steps to take to complete the unlock process.

Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
- The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
- The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
- Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
Military exceptions
Deployed military personnel who are customers in good standing are eligible to have their devices unlocked upon provision of deployment papers. Please Contact us at 888-863-8768 for more details.

"Exceptions for Early Unlocking
If the device has been activated for less than 365 days, the following conditions apply:
The account associated with the device must have had over $100 in refills during that period for each line active on the account.
The device must have been active on the network for more than 14 days since purchase."
Also, I've tested this and I'd like to throw it out there that moving between subsets of MVNOs works without unlocking. DIdint used to, but a few years ago it did. Like, if you have metro but want to switch to idk, Family plan by walmart, as long as it's the T-mobile service subset, works fine. You usually need to get a new sim, but it's a negligible cost, e-sims are free.

I went with the $27 "Motorola - moto g power 2024 5G 128GB (Unlocked) - Midnight Blue" option from Best Buy. It's extremely easy to get the price by canceling the VZW service.
You just have to cancel within 3 days and verify the cancel 2-3 times in that 3 days because they're TRAINED to not verify the cancel, let it bill out to 30 days and let it go to collections, which nets VZW millions a year. But I have no problem making them check their work, I've been a project manager for years, making ppl check their work is like 90% of my job 😂
Oh and it's best to use the pickup in store option. I did get the ship to home option to work for the OnePlus N30 from BBY 2 yrs ago, but the cancel was a bit more time consuming.
I found 5 dollar tello. BTW will tello number be accepted like out of Network? Because they run on T-Mobile. Metro can assume it is within number and don't give discount on port-in.
