I know people joke about these being fire hazards, but is there any truth in that? This is ETL certified (supposedly) and thus should be able to handle general consumer grade electronics without any concern right? Not planning to plug in a heater, AC, printer or anything too power hungry.

Yes there is massive truth to it. I pretty much only buy from well known brands for Power strips/Surge protectors because of the many teardowns of these cheaper type ones showing they are not what they say they are lol. You can look it up on youtube and see if there are any teardowns of specific models, but i avoid cheap ones for that reason.
Its usually only a few bucks more for the well known brand ones.
