If you're over 30 you probably should already have a credit card that would reimburse you for TSA Precheck. Fidelity card is free and has no annual fee

For those that do have a card that covers the Pre Check Fee, make sure you don't make the same mistake I did. I charged the fee for myself and my wife on my card (Amex) but they only covered ONE fee per card. If we had paid our own fees with seperate cards (she has her own card under my account), I was told it would have been fully covered. Not the end of the world but lesson learned for next time.

how does this legitimately helpful post get almost as many 'not helpful' as the snarky posts above?

thanks for this post i didn't know my Fidelity card gave this benefit (and the card is free).

You'll all get to the same place at the same time with or without pre-check in. I'd rather have a pre-get off plane faster membership. I have a blonde joke about something like this, but I'll leave You guessing how it ends.

Until you fly internationally and have to go through security again on your way home, and the regular line is backed waaaaaaay up, and your inbound flight was delayed so you have a short connection.

I've beaten colleagues home by hours, and in one instance, an entire day, because I made it to the connecting flight and they didn't.

umm I get to the lounge or coffee stand way quicker with pre-check. I also have to stand surrounded by a bunch of randos for way shorter. The time savings is huge during semi-regular governmental shutdowns, and having precheck can mean a difference in both how early you need to arrive and a significant difference in line length.

But regardless, the line length isn't the only benefit. There are significant differences in security scan procedures.

Also you can keep your laptop and liquids in your carry on. The laptop thing alone is worth the price of admission ($10 a year).

Typically (depending on airport and setup), precheck lets you go through an x-ray machine versus the device that takes images of you undressed. Even for those of us with less modesty, this has several advantages: you can keep non-metal in your pockets, can keep most belts on, and it's much faster and less fidgety. X-rays have far fewer false positives and fixing a false positive is much faster (take off your belt you thought would go through okay and walk through again). For folks with kids they don't have to stand in a specific pose motionless and also there are no images generated of their unclothed bodies.

(A big difference before was the no taking your shoes off thing, which is now all lanes.)
