This Metallica five album vinyl set stands out for the artwork, color variants, and the chance to grab hard to find pressings in one package. The set includes visually striking copies, though the green Justice variant draws some side eye. Audio talk centers on vinyl being a compromise versus CD, especially for ...And Justice for All, where the missing bass remains a sore point. At about $110, the price feels closer to a convenience and display piece than a strong value, especially since the albums can be found separately or on cheaper formats.

Common Questions (5)

  • At about $22 per album, it is a reasonable modern-vinyl price but not a standout bargain; it would be a much better deal closer to $15 per album. Some buyers see it more as collectible wall art than audio value, especially since the set does not fix the bass issues on ...And Justice for All.

  • Vinyl can sound great on some releases, but it is still a compromised format with lower possible dynamic range than CD. Mastering and compression matter more than the format alone, and ...And Justice for All on vinyl is specifically called out for sounding bad because of the missing bass.

  • The set includes cool color variants, and the packaging is visually appealing, with Justice noted as an odd green choice but otherwise spiffy. It also sold out quickly when first released, which adds to the collectible appeal.

  • Yes, the albums can be found cheaper when purchased separately. The set is convenient for collectors, but separate buys may undercut the $109.97 bundle price.

  • Warping is a known concern with Walmart/Target vinyl, so buyers are hoping these copies arrive flat. The set itself is attractive, but the pressing quality risk is part of the purchase.

thanks 🥹
I've driven a really sporty corolla with slick grippy tires on wide rims and modded suspension and quite shitty tired audi with flat tires and shot shocks and a worn shifter linkage.
as an owner of a 2012 corolla, i too can confirm the shifter is slipping... now my kids are driving it into the ground... but its a Toyota so it will be around long after I'm in the ground.. no car payment and closing in on 200,000 miles.. i bet we could hook up a lp player to the audio inputs then this slick deal would be worth it...

Seriously though, CD player is a better idea.

Even CD's are archaic by today's digital audio standards, as I assume you know. Has anyone checked out Metallica's HD Lossless Remastered Digital Downloads? I think they are 24-bit/48kHz compared to a CD's 16-bit/44kHz and only $16-$18 an album.

Great albums and art work but the price is absurd. It isnt like they fixed the bass on AJFA and vinyl is an inferior format to CD which frequently go on sale for $5 a piece. Is it worth $110 for some wall art? Probably not.
I agree with you; I feel like $20 for a new vinyl album (assuming not double record) is pretty reasonable/an OK deal. I this was something more like $15 per album then that would be a great deal but $110 seems ultra meh

I record up to 24bit 192kHz for the productions I work on. (most don't need that and it is just a waste of space and computing power)
Yes, 24bit / 48kHz is better than CD but it isn't worlds better and you need good enough equipment to notice the difference - which most people on Slick Deals are not going to have.
They also only have the "remastered" versions up on the "lossless" digital and that may or may not be what someone actually wants.
As for the quality, yes I've heard some of the Metallica digital lossless stuff. If you want the best remastered versions it is the way to go...assuming you have a player and setup to play it back at those rates (i.e. not everyone has Genelec speakers and a UA Apollo hooked up to their computer.). If you want other versions - CD is the best route.
Since the remastered CDs are frequently $5, even $13 more per album is a fair amount of cash IF you can't hear the difference. The average setup and ears are to going to notice...but yes, if you are serious then it is the best option. On the right setup it basically sounds like the CD version but with a tiny bit of more clarity/space/separation/detail/AIR and if you can notice a dynamic range difference will also be dependent on your setup, generally speaking the remasters are not what I'd call dynamic enough to reveal real differences. Too much compression applied.

...And Justice For All was the first CD I purchased back in the day. I bought it on vinyl a few years ago, and I have to say it's the worst sounding record I've ever purchased. The (lack of Jason's) bass sounds terrible on vinyl.
And Justice For Jason bootleg.

Would love to see an official remaster with bass added back, but that bootleg def gives the album a completely new dimension.

Audio-Technica LP60 + powered Edifier speakers. Probably best budget start. Look around on marketplace locally also.

A laserdisc player won't play these. You need to dust off your CED video disc player. 😂
