This Metallica five album vinyl set stands out for the artwork, color variants, and the chance to grab hard to find pressings in one package. The set includes visually striking copies, though the green Justice variant draws some side eye. Audio talk centers on vinyl being a compromise versus CD, especially for ...And Justice for All, where the missing bass remains a sore point. At about $110, the price feels closer to a convenience and display piece than a strong value, especially since the albums can be found separately or on cheaper formats.

I've driven a really sporty corolla with slick grippy tires on wide rims and modded suspension and quite shitty tired audi with flat tires and shot shocks and a worn shifter linkage.
Seriously though, CD player is a better idea.

Even CD's are archaic by today's digital audio standards, as I assume you know. Has anyone checked out Metallica's HD Lossless Remastered Digital Downloads? I think they are 24-bit/48kHz compared to a CD's 16-bit/44kHz and only $16-$18 an album.

Yes, 24bit / 48kHz is better than CD but it isn't worlds better and you need good enough equipment to notice the difference - which most people on Slick Deals are not going to have.
They also only have the "remastered" versions up on the "lossless" digital and that may or may not be what someone actually wants.
As for the quality, yes I've heard some of the Metallica digital lossless stuff. If you want the best remastered versions it is the way to go...assuming you have a player and setup to play it back at those rates (i.e. not everyone has Genelec speakers and a UA Apollo hooked up to their computer.). If you want other versions - CD is the best route.
Since the remastered CDs are frequently $5, even $13 more per album is a fair amount of cash IF you can't hear the difference. The average setup and ears are to going to notice...but yes, if you are serious then it is the best option. On the right setup it basically sounds like the CD version but with a tiny bit of more clarity/space/separation/detail/AIR and if you can notice a dynamic range difference will also be dependent on your setup, generally speaking the remasters are not what I'd call dynamic enough to reveal real differences. Too much compression applied.
