Be aware that last month's Firebat AM02 came infested with around 50 instances of a few viruses scattered across files on the Windows 11 install; and a few people (including myself) had bare screws rolling around inside the case as well from the 2nd M.2 slot Search here for the AM02 thread for details.

So I did recently buy a Firebat mini pc... not this one, I got a refurbished with a 8845hs/16GB/512GB for $232... BEFORE prices jumped. I was lucky, cause I also purchased 32GB of RAM on facebookmarketplace for $50 and a SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB gen 4 for 135 (missed the 118 deal by a week). Today I can not find my SSD for under $500.

I personally would want a 8845hs or a 8840hs since these have a 780m GPU built into their CPU. THe 7735hs has a 680m.

Bottom line, try to find a mini pc with this strong of a CPU and 16GB/512GB for this price.

If you have any specific question... just let me know.

You mean you read about it last month...

the specific "factory-installed malware" scandal involving Firebat, AceMagic, and Kamrui (all brands under the same parent manufacturer) peaked in February and March of 2024.

IT IS NOT TRUE that this happened last month (or your post makes it seem that way)... your baloney is good but not that good.

And it is ALL from the same company that these manufactures used to install software... ONCE found out they dumped that provider and hired another.

The OS is tied to your motherboard serial number, so it is super easy to install a new OS at no cost on DAY 1!!!!

Installing a clean version of Windows without a Microsoft account (a "local account") has become slightly more difficult in 2026, but it is still very doable using a simple bypass during the setup process.
Phase 1: Create Your Installation Media

Since you have a Ryzen-based mini PC, you want to ensure you are getting the official, un-bloated files directly from the source.

Go to the official Microsoft Windows 11 Download page on a clean computer.

Use the "Create Windows 11 Installation Media" tool to turn a USB flash drive (8GB or larger) into a bootable installer.

Phase 2: The Installation (The "Clean Sweep")

Plug the USB into your Firebat and boot from it (usually by tapping F7 or Delete during startup).

When asked for a product key, select "I don't have a product key" (it will usually auto-activate later via the hardware ID).

Crucial Step: When asked "Which type of installation do you want?", choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).

Delete every single partition on the Drive until you see nothing but "Unallocated Space." This ensures any hidden factory malware recovery partitions are gone.

Select that empty space and click "Next."

Phase 3: The "No-Microsoft-Account" Bypass

Once Windows restarts, it will walk you through the "Out of Box Experience" (OOBE). It will eventually try to force you to connect to the internet and sign in to a Microsoft account. Use this trick to skip it:

Stay Offline: Do not plug in an Ethernet cable or connect to Wi-Fi yet.

Open Command Prompt: On the screen where it asks you to connect to a network, press Shift + F10.

Type the Bypass Command: In the black box that appears, type the following exactly and hit Enter:
OOBE\BYPASSNRO

Reboot: The PC will automatically restart and return to the same setup screen.

The New Option: This time, when it asks you to connect to a network, you will see a new option: "I don't have internet." Click that.

Limited Setup: On the next screen, click "Continue with limited setup."

You can now enter a local username and password of your choice without ever linking a Microsoft account.
Final Step: Drivers

Once you are at the desktop, you will need drivers (especially for the Ryzen chipset). Since this is a mini PC, Windows Update usually handles 90% of them. For the remaining ones, it is safest to go directly to AMD's website for the chipset and graphics drivers rather than using the Firebat factory website, just to stay 100% clean.

Dude, I literally was the one posting my own findings 3 weeks ago on the Slickdeals tread after ordering the $216 Firebat AM02 that made front page here. 48 infected files found by both Malwarebytes and Windows defender.

Go read the thread. I was not the only one who reported viruses arriving on it (3 others did report the same viruses as well, one other also reported the m.2 screw rolling around), I was the one that supplied the summarized output of the scanners show which files were infected.

This is very true. Why are you defending these companies????

Actually on the $216 AM02 6600h deal from last month, the activation key was tied to mobo AND the m.2 NVMe drive in combination with each other. (Typically it is only tied to the mobo alone from the top tier companies like Dell with VLK's). I tried installing fresh to a new drive and windows wouldn't activate, formatting the virus ridden main partition and installing to that was the only thing that let windows activate again.

But I also put in a second nvme and have Linux Mint on it anyway. It dual boots fine with f7 redirect and hopefully stupid Windows updates won't trash the Linux install when it's on the separate m.2 entirely.

Why... cause it is the best value around.

You got OLD STOCK... Firebat, Acemagic, etc... all used the same imaging company. Once the virus was discovered they switched companies but they did not reformat the devices they had in stock.

I do not believe the virus was installed in 2026, but was installed in 2024.

And ANYONE who buys a computer such as a mini pc or a dell, or HP, Acer, etc... should be reformatting the hard drive, getting rid of any partitions. It is easy to do and FREE and you will not have the issues you have described.

I will also point out you got a Ryzen 5... OLD TECH...

This is the story of why your machine had viruses on it....

I see. So you switch from basically stating I am a liar and that the issue happened 2 years ago and that I only read it last month, to instead of apologizing, you now are saying it must have been old stock and then switch your argument over to the fact I bought OLD TECH now as an insult of what I purchased for a lot less. Gotcha.

Look, some of us have specific use cases and specific budgets. My last PC was a i5-9400 purchased 6 years ago. The 6600H is around twice as fast. And at $216 vs. $333; this one is another 50% more expensive. I bought last month as I knew prices were continuing to go way higher, after missing them at ~$150 a number of months earlier. Plus there was extra cashback of 18% saving me another ~$40 anyway bringing it down to around $176 for the older model.

I don't dump (and even posted as such) on others that may still buy an N100 because their use case makes sense (e.g. super low power, low use home assistant type use). Keep upping your 6,375 valuable posts I guess.

You missed my point... if you read which CPU's were infected with the virus (due to the age o the system) you would have seen that your CPU is listed.

Your right to be upset, these companies knew about the virus and decided not to reformat the device. But again, you should have just reformat the hard drive.

AND every single virus that was on your system is detectable with Windows defender... but that should not be the case if you reformated the hard drive.

And I hear you about cost of PC's. My last computer was a i7 3rd gen that is 14 years old and in the day I purchased a open box item on a weekend that Best Buy gave an additional 20% off... I am all about saving money.

And my NEW computer is a firebat with a 7845HS 16GB and 512GB and no virus was installed but I purchased a new hard drive and 32GB of RAM and replaced everything and reformatted the original hard drive and use it as storage.

I am seriously considering installing the original RAM and hard drive, selling it on ebay for $450 and buying a bare bone AI 370 mini computer for $535

By the way I paid $232 for my firebat with RAM/hardrive and OS.

Josh is going super sayian to sell these 😂 I purchased the deal last month and it's hot junk here on SD. Gets extremely hot when doing anything. Can't run Roblox for longer than 15 minutes. Constantly reboots and crashes. Reformatted when I first received it. Updated bios and all drivers. Purchased a fan and then another fan, even lowered the ac. Run from this company. Received no response from seller

"RAM: 16GB of high-speed LPDDR5 memory (4800MHz)." Seems slow for LPDDR5. Hopefully that is a typo.
