I was concerned because the order indicated a price of $51, but it suddenly increased to $94 after the item went out of stock and a refund for it was issued.
I wanted to avoid any issues, so I added something else to bring the total up to $100, but it appears that wasn't necessary.
Let me clarify, if it shows OOS as you are placing the order and the new total drops off the $50 promo, yes, you need to add to the order.

If the order IS CONFIRMED and PLACED with over $100 in your cart to begin with, let's say you've chosen a pick up time tomorrow when placed at 5PM today. When the shopper shops your order, if items are oos that you've said do not substitute on when she/he is actually getting the items into your order, they are refunded off the total AFTER the $50 discount.

Please do not think I was saying if you are online and it shows OOS WHILE ordering on the website that you don't have to hit $100, you do. My post ONLY APPLIES to fully placed order where an item goes OOS after you've placed your order as it is being shopped.

worked for me. Had to pay $8 instacart fee (which I normally wouldn't pay with Instacart+), but that's a fair fee to pay when saving $50.
Strange, I wasn't charged any $8 fee for a pick up order on the GrubHub+ ALDI Instacart order. What was that fee for exactly?

My order was confirmed and placed with a total over $100.

The item went out of stock after the confirmation.

I never thought or assumed you were saying you don't have to meet the $100 threshold during the initial ordering process.

I'm a bit confused by what you wrote however.

, but it appears that wasn't necessary.

So this was after it was confirmed and placed? You added an item after the fact you mean?

I did an in-store pickup. The order was confirmed and placed. While the store was shopping they messaged me stating an item was not available. No substitution was available and they issued the refund while still picking up items.

When the refund was issued the price total changed to $94 from $51. The store was still shopping for the items and I was able to add additional items

That's why I added an additional $6 to make it $100 and the $50 promo reapplied.

OK, I understand, sometimes it's hard to decipher a chain of events on a written post, can read it a few ways, that's why I answered how I did. Thanks for the update.

No, the order is considered 'confirmed' when you place it. If items are OOS, they are lined out of the order and deducted from the total shown.

So, if on GrubHub you've placed an order for $102 in items and with tax it's $106 and a jug of detergent you ordered is OOS at $9.99, you'll pay $9.99 + tax less on your final total AFTER the $50 was already credited.
Uber Eats will take the discount away if your subtotal falls below the minimum threshold due to an item being out of stock. He's right to be wary.

In the past, offers like this on instacart have been taken from me if my order fell below the total threshold for the deal.

Anyway to use instacart giftcards with this offer? I have them loaded in my instacart account but don't think this is linked.

1) this isn't Uber Eats, and it isn't GrubHub either.

2) your order is fulfilled and billed by Instacart. I'm the OP and I'm very versed with Instacart's platform and promo code application set up.

As I've stated, once you've placed and CONFIRMED your order, as the order is being shopped, if items on your order are OOS that you've said "don't substitute" on as the order items are being collected at the store, you are credited back on those items and the $50 off promo is not affected.

No, forms of payment are through GrubHub, not instacart. Can't use gift cards from Instacart, nor can you pay with a Grub Hub GC because the order is billed to your CC from Instacart placed on the GrubHub platform..
