Is this probably the best way to get a pair of goggles n3 + motion 3 remote for my Neo 2 (knowing I have to shell out another 40ish for the transceiver?)

there was discount and deal on neo2 with the N3 and motion controller. it should pop up again. these DJI neo1/neo2 deals come up pretty often.

Because you already have the Neo2 _and (yes) the Digital Transceiver antenna Module dropped from $80-ish to $30 (eby), this combo cost the least to obtain goggles N3 + RC3 at a good value.

"Good value" defined as valuing the Neo1+charger+3 batts at "more" than $80, cuz for me, I wouldn't have bought the goggles separately at $259, nor the RC3 for $30.

Since the Neo1 separately is already $139, there's room to sell it (in lieu of hull insurance - the no-DJI-Care-in-USA replacement fund) or keep as a beater for someone else.

Edit: For myself, I chose not to go the Neo2 Motion Fly More Combo option- at close to $600, it's spending too much of today's cash to get the goggles, then needing to sell the 2nd Neo2, which might be tougher as summer nears- anything below a Mini 4 Pro would see some sale takeaways as Lito starts to attract mid/upper casuals preferring video quality over FPV rush/skills - since the Lito X1 also has Follow-Me, _plus waypoint .KMZ autonomous mission flight planning.
I would, instead, buy at this deal's price, save the difference to be poised to fund a summer combo deal on a Avata 2 (that can use the goggles), or head in the direction of Lito X1 / Mini 5 Pro- if wanting a tourism drone, the true, sub-250gr is the Lito X1, else the 5 Pro is still the best video for the price.

FYI, the niche for the Mini 4 Pro is it's a D-Log M cine with a fuller-range of FPV head-tracking movement when paired with the Goggles-3 / RC3. Since the Avata 2 combos are the best value in obtaining Goggles-3, the Mini 4 Pro is the perfect complement to the Avata 2 in speed vs visuals, while also filling in as sub-250g travel drone. So, if you max'ed out on the Neo's, break the piggy, sell it all, skip the Avata-1, cry at not getting the Mini 5 pro's video-Q ... rather, enjoy head-craning FPV cine mountain surfing, lateral low chases, gap-threading, with color-graded 4K/60 (or 100fps slo-mo) HDR footage.

Do these goggles give you a 2D view or 3D view from the drone?

For the Goggles N3 - with no other video inputs available, it's 2D only in stock configuration.

3D requires at least 2 cameras active/sync'ed/processed (stereoscopy). While many DJI drones have more than one camera, it's either/or, and they are different focal lengths. There is no video processing that sends 3D video through the transmission link.

DJI might have / had analog goggle models and if those offer a separate video input, one can always mount additional cameras w separate transmitters on any drone lift-capable.

If you're not talking real-time 3D, there is depth/distance data - from obstacle avoidance sensors/cameras/LiDAR - sent along in some (Matrice series) 04 Enterprise telemetry- up to 6 channels/angles of distance-to-object _awareness, but no stock processing that converts that data into visual 3D space.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0...WL&index=1

Even if DJI can build this fantasy 3/4D video processor, the drone's battery would explode trying to feed power to an Nvidia chipset- meant for vehicle navigation - combining cameras and LiDAR data to form a AI-approx 3D video space in realtime. Its dissipation would melt the drone's hull.

Fyi, the Goggles 3 can playback video files in the micro-SD card in several 3D formats, but not from drone transmission.

explain what you mean by "true fpv". Why don't you consider this kit to be true fpv?
I bought this kit, it's my first FPV rig, but not my first drone. For a beginner to the hobby, this is fine. Not everyone wants to whoop around with a drone. This is great for easy exploring, getting nice aerials shots, and a bit of "fancy" flying in sport mode, but just a bit.
Anyone who says you need something more to get started is being hobby-snobby.

i want to pull the trigger just for the headset, but not sure if i should wait for the neo 2
I got this, and sold the Neo and the batteries. Then I bought the Neo2 with that cash. With this deal, all of that cost me less than if I had bought this as a Neo2 bundle.

good find OP. bought one. you're basically getting the neo one for free (or mb the goggles and rc?). great if you already have a neo. now need a deal on the neo2!
I bought the Neo2 on eBay, new with 3 batteries and charger for about $300. That was the cheapest I could find anywhere.

Yes and no.You will still need the DJI FPV3 controller to fly true fpv. Controller is about $180 to $200For real FPV googles and FPV controller. You can try this beginner kit.https://betafpv.com/products/aqui...tDyihUkvBy

Bought this combo a few months ago for $399. It's so much fun to play with. People will hate on the motion controller, but I enjoy using it. Very intuitive and easy to use. This is a very slick deal!

Wow, this is a pretty good deal for those wanting to get into easy FPV cruising with clear digital video feed, GPS RTH, and extra batteries. I bought it last yr at $420 and obviously the release of the Neo2 is making this even cheaper. Yes, the newer Neo is better in every way, but not a better value, depending on your needs. Some will say the motion controller isn't "true FPV" flying and while you can't do full manual/acro flying, it's fairly easy and intuitive for novices to get flying and you can always buy the FPV controller later. The whole kit works well for those who really don't have the time patience or technical skills to build, configure, and safely fly a "real FPV" race quad or whoop. Personally, I'm tired of soldering tiny wires, messing with Betaflight and worrying about Li-po safety. If you ever wanted the experience of flying around in a tiny spaceship, then this is probably the cheapest/easiest route.

Yes, but if you're a many-action-sports person, better off getting the Neo-2 or Mini Pro series.
The specific DJI terminology (for further google-ing) is: their "FocusTrack Suite" options for Neo1 are:
  • ActiveTrack
  • Spotlight
Note: The full FocusTrack capabilities of any one drone may not be available, depending on the controller being used. The RC-N3 (the latest screen-less 2-stick that isn't for FPV and generally included in DJI "camera" drone combos) unlocks more setting parameters (and possibly more flight-routines) than with the included RC3. That's one of many variables.

(Observation/Rant: This is one of many caveats/nuances that makes buying decisions for the (final) combination of which drone/controller(less)/phone/goggle that gets the results you want. So far DJI has good support docs and experienced pilots have replied on forums in detail, so it's just a matter of duh, successive (AI) googling via "iterative search refinement" as you find more terminology and key phrases. Please support these contributors of data/gems by joining/visiting, so using just AI won't eventually kill resources like RTINGS without funding / ad-revenue. AI can't return data that doesn't exist ... and no amount of AI shadowgraphy, making cool fake videos, or dodgy prose sounding elite but concluding nothing, will fix no-data-in, garbage-out)

I'll assume most are interested in the drone self-navigating to chase / follow an object or person. That would be the ActiveTrack feature.

Note that I did not use the "Follow-Me" term because that is a specific term that can involve the tracking of the controller's built-in GPS (that the pilot has moving with him/her) ... which the Neo and these controllers cannot do.

ActiveTrack on Neo-1 is mostly optical signature/pattern recognition- bracket the image of the person/car and it tries to keep the signature in-frame.
As newer / expensive drones include better CPUs to run better AI firmware, and optics put more pixels on the signature, drones like the Neo-2 are much more reliable at not losing their object.

In fact, because the Neo-2 is fairly new, it can do GPS ActiveTrack true Follow-Me with "Dynamic (Return-to) Home" - with the caveat that the controller needs to be the RC-2 (which has GPS built-in). At its price/size, it's literally "punching above its weight" by having this feature that was originally reserved for upper cine models (Mini 4 Pro and up).

If you primarily want a drone to just follow you as the human-object (captured at palm-takeoff time) walking / running while wearing high-contrast patterned clothing, in open, non-monotonic terrain with open sky (GPS signals), then Neo-1 is reliable. But it's not just about recognizing pixels of a human through the chaos of moving pixels. Newer models like the Neo-2 added AI to understand vehicles, snow-boarding, bicycling/motorbiking, even boating / water environments.

Collision detection / avoidance is really key to a clean ActiveTrack run (footage) and not losing or damaging the Neo. Ex., if the Neo has a "face me in front by flying backwards" - or even flanking from the side - it gets iffy because of the limitations in its object avoidance sensors- (correction) it doesnt have _any, just optical/infrared transceivers facing downwards for terrain signatures and (altitude) distance / ranging. Set the chase angle / altitude to be away / above the tree-line, else it will collide.

Dynamic Home - the Neo doesnt have the auto version of this - you will have to have your hands free to "Update Home Point" (in the Safety menu) every so many yards you are willing to walk back - if you accidentally press RTH (Return to Home) and didnt update your home point at all, you got a long uphill walk to get your drone back ... as it lands at the original takeoff point like a good girl/boy it is.

That's the jist of (not Follow-Me, but) FocusTrack's ActiveTrack on Neo-1 (as it compares to most of DJI's offerings).
