I just think this model is too old to be concerned about unlocking (will be 3 yrs old by then), get something with longer updates.
Quite true.

The phone manufacturers have been pretty bad at updates. Ideally, google would own android updates, and the phone manufacturers would add their custom skin on top. But I guess in practice, this only really works in the apple model where they own the whole stack. Too many update combinations and no one to test them.

The 125 1 year plan has that small amount of data? Anyone know the cheapest option to have a decent amount of data. I think before with tf 5 or 10 gigs was 20 bucks or more. Us mobile Is barely over that for unlimited paying annually

Ck TF website for different plan options, you can buy data separately & add as you need - which is the advantage to TF - you only pay for what you need/use most. They also have unlimited monthly plans but agree if you need that much there are better options - TF is best for users that don't live on their phones.

If you have to request unlock after one year, by then, the 1st year introductory plan will be over. Will they accept an unlock request from an expired no-longer-a-customer?

This deal, if you are looking for an unlocked phone, could have complications. Not a slam dunk like it was apparently in the past.
If I'm correct, the whole point of unlocking a phone is so you can use it with another carrier. So it's assumed you'll no longer be a customer.

There were lots of these sold very cheaply through Straight Talk (same exact model as TF) in summer of 24 - if there were issues you'd be reading about more than one or two complaints. I still have a couple that have been in use since then without any problems (Android 15 update made no difference) but they're just used as Wi-Fi devices now.

I have Tracfone service but it's running out in the middle of July. Can I take the year of service from this phone and apply it to the one I'm currently using? (I can find uses for the new phone.)
Yes, and with the new 1 yr requirement, its best to do your stackings as early as possible to unlock ur phones

No after the year, it should autounlock via Wi-Fi within a day or 2 after the year of service.
I believe the policy now states you have to request the unlock after 365 days of continuous service.

Moved my last family member off Tracfone last month -- my dad, moved to RedPocket's $30/year unlimited talk plan. He only talks, does not know how to use data. Verizon's towers are not ideal, and with RedPocket I could get him back on AT&T.

Cheapest alternative to stream music from sd card and spotify to a BT speaker? Don't have an old phone lying around?
The cheapest alternative is getting an SD card adapter for your existing phone, I'm assuming you don't have it since you asked for SD card capability. Or maybe you don't have a phone?
There are more complicated ways, like setting up your own music cloud at home and streaming from there (like using Jellyfin app or UPnP). But this method would require a PC running 24/7, stable internet, plus some setup.
If you wait, more deals might come up, or check ebay for used phones, network locked ones are cheap.

Yes, but you'll have to transfer to this new phone to get the year of service then transfer back to your original phone. I have done this before but as with anything TracFone, if something goes wrong.. good luck. You'll be without service for a while.
That's why it best to call in and have them verify the amount of data you have and transfer from new phone back to old , so they can fix it it the data/ minute/txts aren't right . ( you still do everything yourself you just have them on the phone and tell them you are just making sure the balance rolls over to the next imei

I read somewhere that Tracfone or maybe Straighttalk phones also work with using a Visible sim? Anyone do this?

Prior to year policy change I would have grabbed this. Don't need a lot of minutes or data, but now... Infimobile often has 5GB/month with unlimited talk and text for only $10 more for the year. TF year plans, even with the bundled phones, just not worth it anymore if the phone cannot be unlocked for a year.
Any new/current infimobile offer going now? Looking for recharging.
