Got a dual hose midea (which will be on sale at Costco soon) and the electricity hit isn't as bad as expected. Compared to a single hose unit it costs more but uses less electricity. The unit will probably pay for the difference in electricity savings on its second year

Do any of you used portable A/C with a sliding door? Our living room has only a bay window and a sliding door. I see there is some conversion to use with sliding doors on Amazon. Wondering if anyone has any experience with it?

You could make a piece of wood the same size as the window kit and extend the window kit. Kind of mickey mouse, but a handy person could easily do it. Might even be able to use cardboard.

Unsure how this unit is but the midea duo refurb from Walmart is like $215 I believe. That one works well if you get one that doesn't have condensate issue. Highly recommend that one.

If your climate requires ac only a few days per year then portables are fine. However the mini-heat pump system is the solution for an owner. It is far more efficient and it provides a lower cost for heating than gas or conventional electric.

Heat pump does not necessarily cost less than gas to heat.

All "air conditioners" are heat pumps, just some not reversible.
