I've got 3 of these in different rooms as endpoints for my Roon system. They work great!

I bought one of these the last time they dropped to $280. The sound quality was great, but I was very disappointed in everything related to the touch screen.

1. There is no way to browse music on the device itself - you have to use your phone or computer to select something to play.
2. Switching inputs involves far too many taps/swipes or fussing with the remote
3. The screen just doesn't look very good - it's not very high resolution and it has a narrow optimal viewing angle

I opted to return mine and plan to put a music player together using a HiFi ESP32 for a fraction of the cost. It will involve a lot more tinkering, but should give me a device that is far more enjoyable to use

What is the difference between this and the Pro Plus? I have a Denon 2112 and would use this for Spotify. I have the pro plus right now.

How is tinkering with a HIFI ESP32 going to make it easier to switch inputs compared to the WiiM? The WiiM should have direct inputs you can program with a universal remote.

Wouldn't an Apple TV 4K be cheaper and especially do the exact same thing?

Very different use cases. Apple TV 4K is fine for living room audio streaming via their interface but this is more for a desk or music room, not hooked up to a display, and has actual outputs to connect to powered speakers or an amplifier whereas the closest thing the Apple TV will have to that is an optical output.

My biggest complaint about usability is that there is no browsing "on device." The ESP32 may not offer that natively either, but since it is an open system I can code or figure something else out. It is also small enough that I could even stuff a whole other device (such as a tablet, phone, or another ESP32) next to it in a 3d printed case to act as a controller, and make the whole package feel like a single device

I think pro plus has an akm dac vs ess sabre on this plus the preamp section.

I don't have the ultra, but love my WiiM. One of the best purchases I made for my audio setup.

I have a Schitt DAC connected to my PC. From there, it goes to a Schitt EQ and then a Schitt headphone pre-amp/amp. I can output from that to headphones and/or my 2.1 setup (subwoofer and powered studio monitors). Since I can run Spotify (my man source of streaming music from there), there's no real reason I would need it for this particular room/setup, correct? I don't play much music in other rooms in the house.
