IT guy here. Its bloatware at this point. It used to be the bees knees. Now its not. It sold out and became bloatware. No need for it. Windows Defender does an excellent job. Just my 2 cents.
Windows Defender, a shitty VPN and tampermonkey are all I need.

Windows already has built-in protection these days with Microsoft Defender.

I've been running this for years. I am starting to question what this does/offers compared to built in Defender.

Only 3rd party security software on my Windows machines for 17 years - lifetime licenses. Great for click-happy kids when clean installs become tiresome.

Windows 10 support ended back in October unless you're paying for some kind of extended support. I'd advise upgrading to Windows 11.
a year of Windows 10 ESU--Extended Security Updates--is/was available for free through Oct. 13 2026 if you signed up for it: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/w...pdates?r=1

Will this replace Windows Defender on my Windows 10 computer when support ends?
Will it work on my Windows 8 computer?
Runs fine on my two older laptops running 10 (chips too old for 11 upgrade).

A few notes from a more than a decade satisfied user:

Windows Defender updates a few times a MONTH, whereas this updates far more often for zero day threats, sometimes more than one update a day.

The support people at Malwarebytes are knowledgeable and responsive if there's an issue, especially on places like reddit. The support people at Microsoft...I don't think they have any that walk upright that mere mortals can reach unless you're a large company with thousands of licenses. And when you do get to talk to them, nothing ever happens. EVER. Microsoft Windows support for individual end users and small companies is complete trash.

With regard to multiple licenses like the package being offered here - be aware that the "1 year" countdown for all the licenses begins the first time you use the license on one machine. So if you install it in December on a single machine, when you go to install the second license on your new laptop in March, there's nine months or so left. Licenses can be 'moved' to a different machine during the license term for the balance of time left, which is a handy feature that's available if you create an online account with them.

Good price. Most users probably won't need it if you're running Windows with current updates.

My subscription just expired today. Best antivirus/malware imo and have been using it on all my devices for years.

That & I also have the free version of Malwarebytes which I run scans from it a number of times per day for peace of mind along with Microsoft Defender I hope I'm pretty safe. So far, so good.

Software that needed constant updates as things changed was rarely a lifetime purchase, with the exception of operating systems. All anti-virus products were and are by subscription if you want protection against current threats.

U do have to replace the brakes as they wear out. I imagine the server costs for the antivirus companies aren't charity, so covering server costs can be similar to having to buy brake pads, in ur comparison. Having subscriptions for break pads may actually be cheaper if someone drives lots & wears their brakes faster than normal folks. 🤷🏼

I used malwarebytes, ccleaner & eset antivirus for many years on windows 7 systems after the official end of updates & stayed virus free. We had sales reps running windows 98 through like 2015 using the same protection at an old job. As long as you're not visiting porn sites or known dangerous sites u should be fine. If someone targets u, or u go to lots of porn sites, u will likely get infected no matter what OS u use (no pun intended).
