But also remember, the old adage of "waiting if you can" no longer applies with our current economy. In the span of less than a year, we've seen component prices double, triple, or more in some cases.

Waiting for something might not be the best move. Especially if it's from a company that does NOT telegraph their upcoming releases until they deem it fit to announce. So "maybe" it has oled, "maybe" it has touchscreen -- or maybe not. There's absolutely, genuinely zero guarantee of anything.

Get what you need, when you need it.

I agree, get what you need now that will last and don't worry about the "latest and greatest"

Apple is slowly increasing prices and removing base models for sale (google Mac Mini M4)

The Ram and SSD inflation + shortage was mentioned in Apple's CEO conference call saying its raising the production costs for the future.

I don't see a deflationary period anytime soon (but thats just my own personal prediction).

Apple probably will offer higher Hz refresh rates along with a new design(s), possibly even removable SSD's (EU repairability laws). Nobody outside of Apple knows. They will have to justify the price increase(s) and a few luxury/quality of experience upgrades would be the way to go as a company to continue/increase sales.

I just ordered a M5 15" air to replace my 16" M1 Pro.

To me, the future is a complicated balance. If people don't have enough $ and prices increase too fast, sales slow down therefore discounts/sales will be steep. But if sales continue or increase after price increase(s) = no steep discounts.
I remember the Post 2008 GFC, there were steals and deals everywhere I looked. I didn't have a lot of $ at that time or I would have been snatching up everything cheap in sight. This environment feels eerily similar.

Is this the best price for a new M4 macbook air?
Have others heard rumors that macbook airs will be 120hz in 1-2 generations? Also, there are rumors that macbook pros may be coming with OLED later this year with M6 pro/max series. Possibly including touchscreen!
Thoughts from others?

Air M4 was $750 on Amazon last Black Friday, the lowest price. I can only answer your first question: yes, this is the lowest I've seen for the M4 model.

Repost from earlier thread.

This is YMMV. I checked my local warehouse yesterday and it was $849. I believe the $xxx.97 designation makes it very location-specific.

It is quite ridiculous that they sell 60 hz screens in 2026, they should totally upgrade.

Also the M6 Pro/Max will not be OLED. That is reserved only for the M6 Ultra series, a new design most likely starting at around $3k USD. So a completely different price class.

M6 Ultra? In a MacBook? Aren't the Ultra chips for desktop Studio Macs? The rumors I heard (and they're all rumors unless you are Tim Cook in disguise), is the MBP with an OLED will have the Ultra name, but not using an Ultra chip. An Ultra chip (2 CPU's, basically) would be a total battery suck.
