About this Book:
  • The Handmaid's Tale is a novel of such power that the reader will be unable to forget its images and its forecast. Set in the near future, it describes life in what was once the United States and is now called the Republic of Gilead, a monotheocracy that has reacted to social unrest and a sharply declining birthrate by reverting to, and going beyond, the repressive intolerance of the original Puritans. The regime takes the Book of Genesis absolutely at its word, with bizarre consequences for the women and men in its population.

I wish I had a dollar for every upper middle class, highly educated, childless woman with every luxury and convenience at her fingertips who thinks this is her reality lol.
News alert: there is literally no better time to be alive than 2026. your life is 100x easier than it would have been anytime >90 years ago. if you had to live just 1 day of any time in the 1800s, it would be the worst day of your entire decade. freedom, luxury, convenience, incredible healthcare, vast libraries of knowledge that people in the past could have only dreamed of.
Appreciate your life and all that has been given to you
