From my experience and I think a lot of enthusiasts feel the same way, Creality is usually a great mid- to high-tier value option. But they're kind of 95% perfect: when they work, they're fantastic; when they don't, they can be incredibly frustrating, especially for beginners. Usually people can justify this because of the low cost, and relatively consistent print.

I am becoming more and more anti-bambu as time goes on. At first I loved them as they really pushed the market forward, but lately everything they do has been more and more anti-consumer and it is something I have trouble supporting even if they make good products.

As a LONG time Creality owner, i can say i started with and Ender Pro then Pro V3 the K1 Max then K2 Plus always expecting it to get better and it did... by a small margin. I wasted a lot of time and money on their machines. Doing DIY upgrades and improvements to get reliable and better prints just to call it quits on the K2 plus and buy a Bambu H2S. Creality is fine if you want to save a couple hundred dollars but you will spend more time fixing and tinkering with the printer than you realize, always trying to get a stable print and decent looking final product. Bambu is the way to go if you want a run key solution that won't let you down. Their ecosystem is "Locked down" but for your average person that doesn't matter. The best Creality printer I ever owned was a K1 Max (no CFS) with $500 worth of upgrades on it and countless hours of custom software/hardware configurations. My Bambu H2S printed so much better right out of the box I almost cried. It's been almost a year and still no issues and not a single failed print. Idk or care what they do at Bambu but I'm NEVER going back.

I'm looking to get into the hobby, although done some printing at the local library.

I'm looking at getting a Prusa. Their units are typically upgradeable, but they cost more. These Creality and Bambu are largely one and done units. No path upwards, you may not get parts later, but Bambu in particular has a good reputation for just working and is obviously pretty cheap. Something a Prusa cannot compete with.

One thing that Prusa has that is really cool is the DIY option to save some bucks, but it also teaches you the ins and outs of putting the printer together, which I think in general is crucial knowledge in this hobby. Thus, I'm waiting for Black Friday to get one on sale.

Does this have any significant advantages over the Centauri Carbon 2 apart from looking better? The price difference isn't insignificant, and they seem basically comparable.

I'm really tempted by the Elegoo Centurion Carbon 2 deals going on right now. If I'm a techie but new to 3D printing beyond "throw this file from Printables at the software", is the Creality going to be too much side questing?

At this price, I would lean towards a tool changer like the new FlashForge Creator 5 instead, at least if your focus is on multicolor prints as opposed to engineering materials.

I was really put off of the Carbon 2 by having the 4 filament spools just hanging on the outside, not in a dryer.

Bambu to 3d printers is like HP and inkjet printers. They are quickly locking down their ecosystem and I would not be surprised if in the near future you are forced to buy their filament in order to use the printer, like you do with HP and their ink. I would buy this or a Prusa (if you want higher end) before I would buy anything from Bambu.

Yes. But they are less expensive and you can get whatever dryer you want if you need one and feed out of it. I kind of like the modularity.

Bambu is the best starting point purely because they pack of a lot of technology that this Creality doesn't have to fine-tune all the mechanical stuff and make near-perfect prints. Micro Lidar for leveling, nozzle pressure sensor for flow rate tuning, vibration calibration.

This Creality is a knock-off but doesn't have the tech that makes Bambu easy-to-use and produces 10/10 perfect prints.


Yes, Bambu has it's fair share of issues, and when the technology doesn't work things break hard (I haven't had any issues) due to less user experience in diagnosing and fixing it.

I've been 3D printing since 2014.

Bambu A1 is probably the best starting point printer just because it's extremely good quality for the price and easy to use.


I'd buy a Prusa or Bambu and that's it.
